Blackburn LCN250 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What wire size does the Blackburn LCN250 lug take?
The LCN250 is built for 250 kcmil copper conductor. It is a single-conductor, one-barrel lug, so one 250 kcmil cable per lug. If your feeder is a different size, you need a different catalog number in the series, since the barrel is sized for that one conductor.
2) What size bolt or stud does the LCN250 lug pad mount to?
The mounting pad is drilled for a 1/2 inch stud or bolt. It is a two-hole (2HL) pad, so it lands on a two-bolt NEMA-style pad on a bus bar, breaker or ground bar rather than a single stud.
3) Can I use the Blackburn LCN250 on aluminum conductor, or is it copper only?
Copper only. The LCN250 is a copper-bodied, tin-plated lug rated for copper conductor. For aluminum or dual-rated work you need a lug marked AL9CU. Putting bare aluminum in a CU-only barrel is not a listed connection.
4) Is the LCN250 a compression lug or a mechanical set-screw lug?
It is a compression (crimp) lug with a long barrel, installed with a hydraulic or battery crimp tool and the correct die. There is no set screw. The long barrel gives you multiple crimps along the length for pull-out strength on a heavy 250 kcmil feeder.
5) What does the yellow color on this Blackburn lug mean?
Yellow is the color code that identifies the die and crimp index for this lug. Match the yellow code on the tool die to the lug so the crimp is made to the listed configuration. The color is not insulation, the barrel is bare tin-plated copper.
6) Will a two-hole 1/2 inch lug bolt to a one-hole pad?
No. The LCN250 has two 1/2 inch holes on a fixed center spacing, so the equipment pad has to be drilled and tapped for two bolts. On a single-stud pad you need a one-hole lug of the same 250 kcmil copper rating instead.
7) Does the LCN250 come as a pair or single, and where is it made?
Sold each, one lug per unit, so order one per conductor termination. Country of origin is Mexico.
