1) Does the Leviton IPS15-1LZ motion sensor switch need a neutral wire in the box?
Yes, a neutral is required. The IPS15-1LZ will not work in an older switch loop box that only has a hot and a switched leg. Before you pull the old switch, confirm there is a neutral bundle in the wallbox; if there isn't, the box has to be rewired. It runs on 120 VAC, 60Hz.
2) Can the IPS15 Decora motion sensor be used in a 3-way setup with a second switch?
Yes. The IPS15-1LZ is classified for single-pole and 3-way use, and for multi-location control it pairs with the Leviton IPV0R remote. One sensor does the switching; the remote gives you control from the second location.
3) How much floor area will a 180 degree PIR wall switch sensor like the IPS15 actually cover?
About 900 square feet with a 180 degree field of view, which is why it suits bathrooms, basements, garages and utility rooms. It's passive infrared, so it needs line of sight to the moving body: partition walls, toilet stalls or tall shelving inside that 900 sq ft will create dead spots no matter what the number says.
4) Will the IPS15 motion sensor switch handle LED and CFL lamps, or just incandescent?
It switches incandescent, CFL, LED and fluorescent ballasts, because it uses a relay rather than a solid state dimming circuit. That relay closes at the zero crossing point of the AC curve, which is what makes it compatible with electronic ballasts. It also handles both electronic and magnetic ballasts and 1/2 HP motor loads on 120V, so it works on a bath fan as well as lighting.
5) Is the IPS15-1LZ occupancy or vacancy? Does it turn lights on by itself?
Out of the box it's occupancy style: automatic ON when it senses you, automatic OFF when the room empties. A push button on the face lets anyone kill the lights manually at any time. It can also be used to meet the 2016 California Title 24, Part 6 vacancy control device requirements.
6) Can I set how long the lights stay on after the room is empty?
Four delayed-OFF settings are selectable on the device: 30 seconds, which is meant for walk testing during commissioning, then 10, 20 and 30 minutes. For a restroom or a utility room 10 minutes is typical; longer holds cut nuisance shutoffs in offices at the cost of some runtime.

8) Will this motion sensor fit in an existing single gang wallbox?
It fits a standard wallbox and the housing is low profile, so it doesn't stick out like an obvious scanning device. Depth is the usual caution on a retrofit: a sensor body plus the neutral, line, load and ground conductors is more volume than the toggle you're removing, so a shallow old work box can be tight.
9) Will a PIR wall switch sensor work reliably in a restroom where people are barely moving?
The lens on the IPS15 is segmented and includes an extended minor motion zone, so small movements register rather than only someone walking through. It still needs direct line of sight, which is the limit of any passive infrared wall switch: for a restroom with stalls or an L-shaped room, a ceiling mounted sensor covers what a wall switch cannot see.
10) How do I verify the sensor is picking up motion after installation?
An LED indicator on the face flashes whenever the sensor detects motion, so you can walk the space and confirm the detection pattern before you leave. Set the delay to the 30 second position for that walk test, then move it to the hold time the room needs.
