Delaney 4" Door Knocker with 160 Degree Viewer

The knocker and the viewer are one unit. The Delaney 4 inch knocker has a 160 degree viewer integrated into the plate, so a single bore through the door serves both. That is the reason to pick this over a plain knocker plus a separate peephole: one prep, one piece of hardware, and the two stay aligned on the face of the door.

It covers a 4 by 1-3/4 inch footprint and stands 5/8 inch off the face of the door. That narrow width matters on a door with a slim center rail or on a glass front door with limited flat stile, and the 5/8 inch projection keeps it clear of a storm door that closes tight against the slab.

Forged brass. Not stamped or cast, and not plated zinc, which is what most residential knockers at this size are. Forged brass is why it holds up on an exterior entry that gets used all day, and it is the reason a property manager can put the same part on a run of units and expect them to age the same way.

Four finishes, all on standard BHMA codes: 625 bright chrome, 619 satin nickel, 613 satin bronze oil-rubbed, and 622 matte black. Because they are coded, you can match them against the finish code stamped on the lockset or handleset already on the door rather than eyeballing a color. If the entry set is 619, order the knocker in 619 and the two will read as a set.

No handing to specify. The knocker plate and viewer mount on the centerline of the door face, so the same part works on a left hand or right hand swing, in or out. The only variable on the order is finish, which is why a maintenance shop can stock one part number across a whole building.

Different jobs. The Delaney knocker with viewer is a mechanical, no-power part: nothing to wire, nothing to pair to a network, nothing a tenant can take with them. On unit doors inside a corridor, where a doorbell has no exterior wiring and no place to mount, the knocker plus 160 degree viewer is often the only thing that fits. It does not record, and it does not announce anyone remotely.
