Delaney Avino - Grade 3 Dummy Handleset Exterior Only

There's no latch and no bore-through mechanism. The Avino is a dummy handleset, which means it's a fixed trim piece: it mounts to the door face and the handle does not retract anything. It's used as the counterpart to functioning hardware, or on an opening where nothing needs to latch, like an inactive leaf of a double door or a decorative front. If the door needs to hold shut or lock, this is the wrong part and you want a keyed or passage handleset instead.

Exterior only means you get the outside handleset trim alone. There is no interior knob, lever, or interior plate in the box. If you want a set that ships with matching inside trim, the Bravura 913-Savannah handleset comes with a 615 interior plate and a 906-Macon interior knob, and the Bravura 973-Montgomery pairs a 672 interior plate with a 939-Charlotte lever.

A dummy handleset is exactly the part for the fixed leaf. Put the working handleset on the active door and the Avino dummy on the inactive one, matched in the same finish so the pair reads identically from the street. Satin Nickel, Polished Chrome, and Black are the finishes offered.

Probably not. A dummy doesn't hold the door closed at all, so a closet door with a dummy will drift open unless there's a ball catch or roller catch. What you want there is a passage function set, which latches but never locks. The Schlage Residential F10 Accent lever is a passage set with a dual backset latch fitting 1-3/8 to 1-3/4 inch doors, and the Schlage J10 Builders Basics knob is a passage knob with a 2-3/8 or 2-3/4 inch adjustable backset. Save the Avino dummy for the leaf that never moves.

Grade 3 is the residential-duty tier, and Delaney lists the Avino as residential, so it suits single-family and low-traffic multi-family units rather than commercial entrances. Being a dummy, it carries no security burden anyway, the security comes from whatever locks the door. For heavier residential traffic on the active hardware, Bravura's handlesets, including the 915-Jacksonville and 971-Austin, are Grade 2.

Mounting hardware comes with it. Delaney includes what's needed to fasten the Avino to the door. No strike is involved because a dummy has no latch to catch, so there is nothing to prep in the frame. Your door prep is the through-holes for the mounting posts, not a standard bore and latch mortise.

Not a clean swap. A working handleset needs a bored hole and a latch mortise in the door edge; the dummy mounts to the face with no latch at all. Going from functioning hardware to the Avino leaves an empty bore and latch prep in your door that the dummy trim may not cover. Going the other way, a door prepped only for a dummy needs to be bored before a keyed set will fit.

For a locking front door at the same grade level, Callan's Visconti and Briona single cylinder handlesets are Grade 3 and ship with interior trim. Both are single cylinder, so they key from the outside and thumbturn or lever from inside. The Avino dummy would then go on any adjacent fixed or inactive door to match.
