1) Does the Delaney E Series SD dummy lever actually latch the door?
No. It's a dummy function lever, so there is no latch and no moving mechanism. The lever is fixed and used as a pull or push point where a latch isn't needed, or as the inactive half of a pair of doors matched to a functioning lever.
2) Is a dummy lever the right choice, or do I need a passage lever?
Pick by whether the door has to latch. A passage lever has a working latchbolt and keeps the door closed; the Delaney E Series SD dummy has no latch at all, so it won't hold a door shut. Use the dummy on closet or double-door inactive leaves, on doors held by ball catches or magnetic catches, and as the matching trim on the second leaf of a pair. If the door needs to stay closed on its own, order a passage lever instead.
3) Is the Delaney SD lever rated for commercial traffic or just residential?
Commercial. It meets and exceeds BHMA/ANSI A156.2 Series 4000, Grade 2 at 400,000 cycles, and also meets the FF-H-106C federal standard, so it's specifiable for offices, schools, and multi-family work rather than residential-only use.
4) Will the Delaney US26D dummy lever match the satin chrome levers already on my other doors?
The finish is US26D dull chrome, the standard commercial satin chrome. It matches other US26D / satin chrome hardware, which is the most common finish on commercial cylindrical locksets. It will not match US26 bright chrome or US32D stainless.
5) Can I order the Delaney SD dummy lever handed left or right?
There is one configuration, model 3S5052 in US26D. Dummy levers have no latch mechanism, so handing is a matter of which way you mount the lever on the rose rather than a separate part number.
6) Do I need to bore the door for this dummy lever?
A dummy cylindrical lever mounts as surface trim on the door face and does not need a 2-1/8 inch cross bore or a latch mortise the way a functioning cylindrical lockset does. If you're replacing a working lever on an already-bored door, the dummy rose will sit over the existing hole.
7) Can I use this on the inactive leaf of a pair of doors?
That's one of its main uses. As the dummy counterpart to a functioning lever, it gives the inactive leaf identical E Series SD lever trim in US26D while the active leaf carries the working lockset. The inactive leaf still needs its own means of staying put, such as flush bolts or a surface bolt.
