S hooks are holdbacks, not the pivot hardware. The S shaped hook mounts to the wall and catches the shutter so it stays flat and open against the house instead of banging in the wind. Take the stainless. Delaney offers these S hooks in two substrates, iron and stainless steel, and stainless is the one to specify anywhere salt air, spray, or constant humidity is in play, since it resists rust without depending on a coating staying intact. Iron is the traditional material and is fine on inland openings. Both are the same S hook, sold two to an order.

Count shutter leaves, not windows. One S hook holds one shutter open, so a window dressed with two shutters takes two hooks. These come two pieces per order, which covers one two shutter window. Ten such windows is ten orders. Single shutter openings, common on narrow windows and doors, take one hook each, so a leftover piece stays on the shelf as a spare.

Not functionally. An S hook earns its place on operable shutters, the ones hung on hinges that actually swing closed, because its job is to hold the open leaf back against the wall. On fixed decorative panels there is nothing to hold, so the hook is purely a look. Plenty of buyers do install them for exactly that reason on a period facade, and the stainless version is the one that will keep looking right outdoors.
