Yes. The BreezSlim housing is 4 inches high, which is what lets it drop into a 4 inch wall cavity. That is the whole point of the BreezSlim body: it's the same depth as a standard stud bay, so you can wall-mount it where a conventional bath fan box would never go. Footprint is 9-3/8 by 10-3/4 inches for the rough opening side of things.
2) Can the BreezSlim SLM50/70 fan be mounted on a wall, or is it ceiling only?
Both. 4) Is the SLM-AMTL a complete bath fan, or just the housing?
It's the housing and metal duct portion of the BreezSlim SLM50 and SLM70 fans, not a finished fan on its own. Order it when you're roughing in the box and duct run and pairing it with the BreezSlim fan body and grille. If you want a single ready-to-hang exhaust fan out of one carton, this isn't the part number to buy.
5) Can I retrofit a BreezSlim over an old bathroom exhaust fan without tearing up the ceiling?
That's what the compact body is built for. Delta sizes the BreezSlim housing at 9-3/8 by 10-3/4 by 4 inches specifically so it goes back into the space an older bath fan came out of, ceiling or wall. Measure the existing opening against those numbers first, and remember the duct collar is 3 inch, so an existing 4 inch flex run needs a reducer at the housing.
