Deltana CHK6 Cabin Swivel Hook, 6"

A cabin hook is a two-part swivel hook and eye: the hook mounts on one surface, the eye on the other, and swinging the hook into the eye holds the door where you want it. Deltana's CHK6 gets used both ways buyers ask about, holding a door or a cabinet open so it can't swing shut, and holding it closed for a bit of extra security. It's a surface-mounted holder, not a lock, so it's the wrong choice if you need a keyed or thumbturn latch.

The CHK6 is the 6 inch size, so the hook spans roughly that distance between the mounting point and the eye. Measure the gap you need the door held at before ordering: if you're holding a door open against a wall and the stop or bumper sits farther out than the hook reaches, the hook won't engage, and if the gap is much shorter you'll want a shorter cabin hook instead.

Everything for one installation is in the bag. Each CHK6 is packed individually with one hook, one eye, and the mounting hardware, and it's sold each, so one unit does one door or cabinet. Order one per opening.

It's a residential-duty item. For a house, an apartment unit, a cabinet, or a light-use interior door it's fine, but for a high-traffic commercial opening, a stairwell, or anything on a fire-rated door you want a proper commercial door holder or hold-open device instead. A cabin hook is also not a substitute for a latch or lock on a unit entry door.

Nine finishes: PVD Polished Brass, Polished Brass, Antique Brass, Oil Rubbed Bronze, Brushed Nickel, Antique Nickel, Polished Chrome, Brushed Chrome, and Paint Black. If you're matching existing Deltana trim on the same doors, PVD Polished Brass is the plated version that holds its color longer than standard lacquered Polished Brass, which will patina.

Solid brass through the body, not a plated pot metal casting. That matters for a hook that gets grabbed and swung several times a day, and it's why the finish range includes live finishes like Oil Rubbed Bronze and Antique Brass that are meant to wear in rather than flake off a plated substrate.

It's surface mounted with screws on both halves, no mortising and no boring, so it's a screwdriver job. The hook plate goes on one surface and the eye on the other, which means you need solid material at both points, a door stile and a jamb, or a cabinet door and its face frame. Into hollow-core door skin or drywall alone it will pull out; hit framing or use an appropriate anchor.

A cabin hook adds a measure of security for a door or cabinet, but it's a hold-and-catch device with a swivel hook, not a bolt. It resists a casual push and stops a door drifting or being pulled open a small amount. If you need something that resists real force or that you can key, use a surface bolt, a flush bolt, or a proper latchset. Many buyers use the CHK6 as a secondary hold alongside the primary latch rather than in place of one.

One per opening. The CHK6 is sold each and each bag contains a complete set, one hook and one eye plus screws, so the count you order is the count of doors or cabinet doors you're fitting. Ordering the same finish across the whole job is the usual way to keep a fleet of units matching.
