Deltana CL109EAC Commercial Classroom Standard Grade 2 Round Knob Lockset

Classroom function means the outside knob is locked and unlocked only by key from the outside; the inside knob always retracts the latch for free egress. There is no inside button, so a student cannot lock the room. The CL109EAC is a single cylinder keyed lockset, so the key works the outside only.

Both. The CL109EAC covers a door thickness range of 1-3/8 inch to 1-3/4 inch, which takes in standard commercial 1-3/4 inch doors and older 1-3/8 inch interior doors without any extra kit.

As supplied it is a 2-3/4 inch backset, the usual commercial bore. A 2-3/8 inch backset latch is sold separately, so if your doors are bored at 2-3/8 you need to add that part rather than adjust the latch that ships with it.

It is cut for the Schlage C keyway, so it can be keyed into an existing Schlage C system or master key setup using standard C blanks. As shipped it is a single cylinder keyed lock.

The strike supplied is the ANSI standard 4-7/8 inch x 1-1/4 inch, so it lands in a frame already prepped for ANSI strikes. The latch is UL Listed with a 1/2 inch throw, which is the normal throw for a cylindrical lock into that strike.

The Dexter C2000 Series classroom knob lock is the closest match. Both are Grade 2 keyed cylindrical knob locks in classroom function, and both cover doors from 1-3/8 inch to 1-3/4 inch thick. The Dexter uses a ball knob and is listed as non-clutching, while the CL109EAC is a round knob with a 2-3/4 inch backset and Schlage C keyway.

Step up to a Grade 1 knob lock. The Sargent 8XG04 is a Grade 1 heavy duty single cylinder storeroom/closet knob lock with a 2-3/4 inch backset, the same backset the CL109EAC uses. The BEST 8K Series entrance function knob lock is also Grade 1 heavy duty. Note both are different functions - storeroom and entrance - so confirm the classroom function requirement before substituting.

No handing to specify. The CL109EAC is universal handed, so one part number covers left and right swing doors, which makes it simpler to stock a spare for a building with mixed openings.

Grade 2 is the medium duty commercial tier and is the normal specification for classroom, office and light commercial traffic. The CL109EAC is built as a tubular cylindrical lockset for commercial use. For very high traffic openings or an abused entry, step up to a Grade 1 cylindrical lock such as the Sargent 8XG04 storeroom knob lock with its 2-3/4 inch backset.

Classroom is a keyed function, so for corridor or closet doors that only need latching you need a passage or privacy version instead. In Grade 2 cylindrical knobs, the Corbin Russwin CK4410 passage lock and the Dexter C2000 passage knob both cover 1-3/8 to 1-3/4 inch doors, and the Dexter C2000 privacy knob handles restrooms and offices needing a thumbturn.

Classroom function locks the outside knob by key only and has no inside pushbutton, so an office that wants to lock up from inside is better served by an entrance/office function. The Dexter C2000 entry/office knob lock is Grade 2 keyed for 1-3/8 to 1-3/4 inch doors, and the Corbin Russwin CK4851 is an entrance/office cylindrical knob lock with a conventional cylinder. The CL109EAC remains the right choice when the room must be secured from the corridor side with a key.

For a non-keyed opening on the same run of doors, the Dexter C2000 passage knob lock is Grade 2 non-keyed for 1-3/8 to 1-3/4 inch doors, and the Corbin Russwin CK4410 is a Grade 2 non-keyed passage/closet cylindrical knob lock over the same thickness range. The Falcon W101 is a Grade 2 medium duty passage knob lock with a 2-3/4 inch backset, matching the CL109EAC backset for consistent door prep.

Use a storeroom function instead - the outside knob stays locked at all times and entry is by key only. The Sargent 6G04 is a Grade 2 standard duty storeroom/closet knob lock with a single cylinder, matching the CL109EAC Grade 2 rating and single cylinder keying. For a heavier opening the Sargent 8XG04 is the Grade 1 heavy duty storeroom equivalent.

They are not equivalent for a commercial opening. The Kwikset 400P-CP is a Grade 3 keyed entry knob for 1-3/8 to 1-3/4 inch doors, and the Cal-Royal BER00 is a Grade 3 entrance/office knob with a Kwikset keyway. The CL109EAC is a commercial Grade 2 classroom lockset with a Schlage C keyway and an ANSI 4-7/8 inch by 1-1/4 inch strike, which is what a school or institutional spec usually calls for.

The CL109EAC covers 1-3/8 inch to 1-3/4 inch doors. For thicker leaves, the Corbin Russwin CK4310 Grade 1 passage knob and the CK4851 entrance/office knob both cover 1-3/8 inch to 2 inch, and the Falcon X101 Grade 1 passage knobset with interchangeable core goes to 2-1/4 inch. Confirm the function you need, since none of those three is classroom function.

Brushed stainless. It is sold per each, so a door needing a full set is one unit, and the brushed stainless matches typical commercial stainless trim and hinges without a special order.

Use a dummy trim. The Schlage A170 is a Grade 2 single dummy knob trim, matching the CL109EAC Grade 2 rating, and the BEST 6K Series single dummy trim is a Grade 2 medium duty non-keyed knob. Dummy trim has no latch or bore mechanism, so it suits an inactive leaf or closet face where the CL109EAC classroom lock would be unnecessary.
