Deltana CL210LM-26D – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the Deltana CL210LM deadbolt fit a 1-3/8 inch door, or is it only for 1-3/4?
The CL210LM covers both. It's built for doors 1-3/8 inch through 1-3/4 inch, which takes in standard commercial 1-3/4 inch openings and the thinner older interior doors. If your door is thicker than 1-3/4, this isn't the one.
2) My doors are bored for a 2-3/8 inch backset. Does this Deltana deadbolt work?
As supplied, the CL210LM ships with a 2-3/4 inch backset. A 2-3/8 inch backset version is sold separately, so if your existing cross-bore is 2-3/8 inch from the door edge you need that variant rather than the standard one. Measure center of the bore to the door edge before ordering.
3) What is a double cylinder deadbolt and should I use one on an exit door?
Double cylinder means a key cylinder on both sides, no thumbturn. The CL210LM is keyed inside and out, so nobody can reach through broken glass and turn it open, which is why it gets specified on glass-panel and sidelite doors. The tradeoff is egress: a key has to be present inside to get out. Many jurisdictions restrict that on required exit doors. If you need keyed outside and free egress inside, use a cylinder x thumbturn model like the Hager 3215 or the Dexter DB1000 single cylinder instead.
4) Does this deadbolt need a specific hand, and does the strike come with it?
Handing is universal on the CL210LM, so one part covers left and right hand doors. The strike is included: a no-lip square corner strike, 1-1/8 by 2-3/4 inches, with a frame reinforcer and dust box. If your frame is already prepped for a square corner strike of that size, you're reusing the existing mortise.
5) Can I replace an existing tubular deadbolt with this one without re-drilling the door?
If the door already has a standard tubular deadbolt prep at a 2-3/4 inch backset, the CL210LM drops into it, since it's a tubular bored deadbolt at that backset with universal handing. Two things to check: the door has to fall in the 1-3/8 to 1-3/4 inch range, and the inside face needs a full bore, because double cylinder means a keyed cylinder both sides rather than a thumbturn. A one-sided or half-bore bolt like the Callan 205S is not the same prep.
6) What is a direct Grade 1 double cylinder deadbolt equivalent to the Deltana CL210LM?
The Dexter DB1000 double cylinder deadbolt is a Grade 1 double cylinder unit with a 1-3/8 inch to 1-7/8 inch door thickness range, and the Design Hardware D1 Series double cylinder deadbolt is Grade 1 extra heavy duty for 1-3/4 inch doors. The Deltana CL210LM is itself a Grade 1 double cylinder tubular deadbolt fitting 1-3/8 inch to 1-3/4 inch doors, so the Dexter covers the same thickness span and slightly thicker doors, while the Design Hardware is fixed to 1-3/4 inch.
7) Which deadbolt should I use if egress code will not allow a key on the inside?
The Deltana CL210LM is a double cylinder deadbolt, meaning a key is needed on both sides. Where a thumbturn inside is required instead, the Accentra D111 is a Grade 1 cylinder by thumbturn deadbolt for 1-3/8 inch to 1-3/4 inch doors, and the Dexter DB1000 single cylinder is Grade 1 cylinder by thumbturn. The Arrow E60 goes further with a blank plate outside and thumbturn inside for non-keyed exit use.
8) I need a Schlage C keyway deadbolt to match my existing keying - what else works besides the Deltana CL210LM?
The Deltana CL210LM uses a Schlage C type keyway. Among other Schlage C keyway deadbolts, the Hager 3214 is a Grade 2 double cylinder unit for 1-3/8 inch to 1-3/4 inch doors, and the Hager 3118 is a Grade 1 classroom deadbolt with a Schlage C keyway and 6-pin cylinder for the same thickness range. The Dormakaba D900 small case mortise deadbolt is offered keyed different with SC keyways if the opening takes a mortise case rather than a tubular bore.
9) What looks like a substitute for the Deltana CL210LM but is not?
Several items in the same family will not drop into the same prep. The BEST 8T is a T Series tubular deadbolt tube component, not a complete deadbolt. The Baldwin Reserve 8BR0618001 is a deadbolt spacer, and the Arrow 460 is a mortise lock strike for latchbolt and deadbolt functions. The Codelocks CL200 and CL2200 are surface-mounted deadbolts rather than bored units. The Deltana CL210LM is a complete tubular deadbolt with a 2-3/4 inch backset and its own square corner strike, frame reinforcer and dust box.
10) What should I use instead of the Deltana CL210LM on a thicker commercial door?
The Deltana CL210LM covers 1-3/8 inch to 1-3/4 inch doors. For thicker leaves, the Corbin Russwin DL3011 Grade 1 cylindrical deadlock covers 1-3/4 inch to 2-1/4 inch, and the Dexter DB1000 double cylinder deadbolt covers 1-3/8 inch to 1-7/8 inch while keeping the Grade 1 double cylinder arrangement.
11) Is there a fire rated alternative to the Deltana CL210LM deadbolt?
For openings where a fire rating has to be documented, the Hager 3118 Grade 1 classroom deadbolt and the Hager 3215 single cylinder deadbolt with 1 inch throw both carry a fire rating and fit 1-3/8 inch to 1-3/4 inch doors, and the Cal-Royal CRB800 is a Grade 1 heavy duty single cylinder deadbolt with a UL 3-hour fire rated latch. All three are keyed on one side with a thumbturn inside, where the Deltana CL210LM is keyed on both sides.
12) My doors are prepped for a 2-3/8 inch backset - which deadbolt fits without a new bore?
The Deltana CL210LM ships with a 2-3/4 inch backset, with the 2-3/8 inch version sold separately. If you would rather have one part cover either prep, the Cal-Royal ED500 is a Grade 3 deadbolt with an adjustable backset for 1-3/8 inch to 1-3/4 inch doors, the Falcon D111 is a Grade 1 classroom deadbolt with adjustable backset, and the Brinks Raleigh E2401 single cylinder deadbolt has a 4 way adjustable backset.
13) I'm keying a whole building. Can I order several of these keyed alike?
Yes. Keying is selected with the order on the CL210LM: keyed alike so one key runs multiple doors, or keyed different for individual units. There's also a field to key to an existing code, which is how you fold new bolts into a Schlage C system already in the building.
14) Is this Deltana deadbolt heavy duty enough for a commercial entrance?
It's a Grade 1 tubular deadbolt classed for commercial use, with steel and zinc construction. Grade 1 is the top ANSI/BHMA durability tier, which is what an apartment entry, a storefront back door, or a high-traffic institutional opening typically calls for over a Grade 2 or 3 residential-duty bolt.
15) What other Grade 1 double cylinder deadbolts could I use instead of the Deltana CL210LM?
Two close alternatives in the same class: the Dexter DB1000 double cylinder, Grade 1, which covers a wider 1-3/8 to 1-7/8 inch door thickness if your doors run thick, and the Design Hardware D1 Series double cylinder, Grade 1 extra heavy duty, listed for 1-3/4 inch doors only. If you're standardizing a building on a Schlage C keyway, the Hager 3214 is a double cylinder option in that keyway, though it's Grade 2.
16) Is there a lighter-duty double cylinder deadbolt than the Deltana CL210LM?
Yes. The Dexter DB2000 double cylinder deadbolt is Grade 2 for 1-3/8 inch to 1-3/4 inch doors, the Delaney LU Series double cylinder is Grade 2, and the Callan Model 210S double cylinder is Grade 3. The Deltana CL210LM is Grade 1, so those step down in ANSI grade while keeping the key-both-sides function.
17) What do I use if the tenant needs keyless egress or an electronic option instead of the Deltana CL210LM?
The Deltana CL210LM is a keyed double cylinder mechanical deadbolt. For credential-based control, the Dormakaba Saffire LX-D is an RFID electronic deadbolt with BLE and electronic lock override, the Dormakaba Nova-D is an RFID multihousing smart electronic deadbolt, and the Delaney KP400 is a Grade 2 electronic deadbolt with a programmable remote. The Codelocks CL2210 is an electronic mortise deadbolt for mortise-prepped doors.
18) Can I get a Grade 1 deadbolt for an SFIC or less-core keying system rather than the Deltana CL210LM's Schlage C cylinder?
The Deltana CL210LM comes with a Schlage C type keyway. If your system uses interchangeable cores, the Delaney LM Series Grade 1 single cylinder deadbolt is supplied less core, and the Arrow E61 is a Grade 2 single cylinder deadlock with SFIC prep less core for 1-3/8 inch to 1-3/4 inch doors. Both are single cylinder, so they differ from the key-both-sides function.
