Deltana DSWT Solid Brass Finial - Windsor Tip

The DSWT Windsor finial fits Deltana solid brass hinges from 3-1/2 inch through 5 inch. It threads on with an 8 x 1.25mm machine thread, so the hinge pin has to be a Deltana solid brass pin cut for that thread. Sizes outside the 3-1/2 to 5 inch range, and hinges from other makers, are not covered by that fit statement.

Windsor tips are sold one at a time, each. A standard hinge pin takes a tip at the top and one at the bottom, so a single hinge needs two DSWT finials, and a door on three hinges needs six. Property managers matching a run of doors should count the openings and multiply.

Only if the hinge is a Deltana solid brass hinge in the 3-1/2 to 5 inch range with a pin threaded 8 x 1.25mm. Plain steel hinges and hinges with a swaged or riveted button tip have no thread to take a finial, and there is no way to convert them. On those openings you replace the whole hinge, not the tip.

Eleven finishes: polished brass, PVD polished brass, unlacquered brass, brushed brass, antique brass, polished chrome, brushed chrome, brushed nickel, antique nickel, oil rubbed bronze, and paint black. PVD polished brass is the one to pick if the hinges are PVD, since a standard lacquered polished brass tip next to a PVD hinge will drift in tone over time. Unlacquered brass is the choice if you want the tips to patina along with unlacquered hinges rather than stay bright.

The Windsor tip measures 1/2 inch diameter and 1-1/4 inch height. The height is the full tip, so figure roughly that much of added length at each end of the hinge barrel once it is threaded down. On a door in a tight reveal or under a stop, check that clearance before committing to a decorative tip.

Solid brass, substrate and material both. That matters on an exterior or high-traffic opening where a plated pot-metal tip wears through at the edges. Finish still sits on top of the brass, so an unlacquered or PVD choice drives how it holds up cosmetically.

Deltana rates the DSWT finial for commercial use. It is a decorative pin tip, not a load-bearing component, so it changes nothing about the hinge's weight capacity or the door's swing. Pick it on appearance and on the hinge size it has to thread onto.
