Deltana FPS234 Flush Pull, Square, Heavy-Duty, 2-3/4" x 2-3/4", Solid Brass

Pocket doors are one of its intended uses, along with sliding doors and cabinet doors. Any opening where the door has to pass a jamb or slide into a wall pocket needs a pull that sits flush with the face, and the FPS234 mortises in so nothing stands proud of the door. Projection is 7/16 inch into the door face, so the cup depth is what the door has to accept.

The FPS234 is a pull only, no latch and no privacy function. On a pocket door that just glides shut it is all you need, usually one per face plus one on the edge. If the opening is a bathroom or bedroom that has to latch and lock, a plain cup pull will not do it; you want a pocket door set with a passage or privacy mechanism, such as the Baldwin Estate 8601 pocket door pull for passage and dummy applications.

The FPS234 is a heavy-duty solid brass flush pull for face-flush installation on sliding, cabinet and pocket doors. Openings that call for a ligature-resistant detail are served instead by the ABH 1911 Series flush door pull, which is built with a ligature-resistant design. Specify the ABH 1911 where the facility program requires that detail, and the Deltana FPS234 on general sliding and pocket door work.

The Deltana FPS234 is a square flush pull measuring 2-3/4 inch by 2-3/4 inch in solid brass. When the door already has a round bore, the Orca Hardware 2-1/8 inch diameter round flush pull covers the same face-flush pulling duty with a circular profile. Both drop into the door face so nothing protrudes into a sliding or pocket door pocket; the difference is the shape of the mortise the installer has to cut or match.

The FPS234 is a fixed flush pull with a 7/16 inch projection recess, so the fingers work inside the cup. When the leaf needs to be drawn out of a fully recessed pocket, the Trimco 1066/1067/1068 drop-ring flush pulls give a ring that lies flat until it is lifted, and the Baldwin Estate 8601 pocket door pull is built specifically for pocket door passage and dummy applications. All three keep the door face clear when not in use.

Solid brass, not plated steel or zinc. That matters on a pull that gets a fingernail and a tug thousands of times: the edges of the cup do not wear through to a different base metal, and it will not rust in a bathroom or a coastal building. Twelve finishes: PVD Polished Brass, Polished Brass, Unlacquered Brass, Brushed Brass, Antique Brass, Polished Nickel, Brushed Nickel, Antique Nickel, Polished Chrome, Brushed Chrome, Oil Rubbed Bronze, and Paint Black. Oil Rubbed Bronze is a living finish that darkens and wears at the touch points, so a pull added to an opening five years later will not match the ones already in service. If you are standardizing across a fleet of doors, PVD Polished Brass holds its color and is the safer pick for phased work.

It is mostly a question of what the rest of the door hardware looks like and what your router setup is. The Deltana FPS234 is square, 2-3/4 x 2-3/4 inches, which lines up with square rosettes and modern trim. If the door already has round hardware or you would rather bore the pocket with a hole saw than rout a square mortise, the Orca Hardware 2-1/8 inch diameter round flush pull covers the same job with a circular cutout. Function is identical, appearance and prep are not.

Flush pulls are sold and priced individually, each. A pocket door that gets used from both sides needs one on each face, and many installers add a third on the leading edge so the door can be drawn back out of the pocket. Bypass closet doors typically take one per panel per accessible face. Count your faces before ordering, not your doors.

Not really. The FPS234 is a flat square cup with a 7/16 inch recess, meant for fingertips on a door that moves easily. If the door is stiff or heavy and you need something to grab and haul on, a drop-ring pull gives you a folding handle that lies flush until you lift it, the Trimco 1066/1067/1068 drop-ring flush pulls do that. The Trimco 1060/1061 flush cup pulls are another cup-style alternative if you want to stay with a simple recess.

They are not interchangeable. The Deltana FPS234 is a solid brass square flush pull, 2-3/4 inch by 2-3/4 inch, that provides a gripping recess in the door face and nothing else. The Baldwin Estate 8601 is a pocket door pull built for passage and dummy applications, so it is specified around the door's operating function. If the order is simply for a recessed grip on a sliding, cabinet or pocket door, the FPS234 is the part; if the opening is being specified as passage or dummy trim, the 8601 is.
