Deltana GP12EFB Guide Plate for EFB Extension Flush Bolt, 2" x 1", Solid Brass

The GP12EFB is the guide plate that mounts on the door edge and holds the rod of a Deltana extension flush bolt in line as it travels. It is not the bolt itself, and it is not a strike. On an inactive leaf of a pair, the flush bolt body mortises into the top or bottom of the door and the rod runs along the edge or face; the guide keeps that rod from wandering so the bolt lands in the strike every time. It works with all of them. The GP12EFB guide plate is compatible with Deltana extension flush bolts in 12, 18, 24 and 39 inch rod lengths, so the same plate covers a short residential-height bolt and a full 39 inch rod on a tall opening. The 12 in the model name is not a length restriction on the bolt you pair it with.

The guide plate measures 2 x 1 inches, so you need a flat run of about two inches along the mounting surface with a clear inch across it. That is a small footprint, which matters on a narrow stile or where a lite frame or glass stop crowds the edge. Lay it out against the rod path before you drill so the guide sits square to the bolt travel.

Count one guide per rod, not one per opening. A pair of doors with top and bottom extension flush bolts on the inactive leaf has two rods, so that is two guide plates. Longer rods, the 24 and 39 inch versions in particular, are the ones that most need the support since an unguided long rod flexes and misses the strike. The GP12EFB is sold each, so order the quantity to match your rod count.

Nine finishes: Polished Brass, Unlacquered Brass, Antique Brass, Polished Nickel, Brushed Nickel, Antique Nickel, Polished Chrome, Brushed Chrome, and Oil Rubbed Bronze. Unlacquered Brass is the one to pick if the rest of the opening is living finish and you want the guide to patina along with it, since a lacquered polished brass plate will stay bright while everything around it darkens.

Usually yes, if the rod is unsupported over its run. A long extension flush bolt rod that has nothing holding it against the door will bow under its own length and drift out of line with the strike, and it will buzz when the door shuts. Adding a guide plate at the midpoint of the rod travel takes the flex out. If the bolt still misses after that, the problem is strike alignment or a sagging leaf, and a guide will not correct either one.

Solid brass, both the substrate and the finish material. That matters on an exterior pair or a coastal building where a plated steel guide rusts at the screw holes and stains the door face. Brass also machines cleanly if you need to file the opening slightly to true up the rod path.

Deltana classes the GP12EFB as commercial door hardware, and it is used the same way in a multi-family corridor pair as in a residential entry. Handing is not a factor, the guide is symmetrical and mounts the same on a left or right hand inactive leaf. What decides the job is the rod length of the flush bolt you are guiding, not the leaf swing.
