1) What size hinge does the Deltana HPR40 hinge pin fit?
The HPR40 is the replacement barrel pin for Deltana's DSB4 Series solid brass hinges, which are the 4 inch hinges. The pin itself runs 3-3/8 inches long with a 1/4 inch diameter, so it seats in the 4 inch knuckle. If your hinge leaf measures something other than 4 inches, this is the wrong pin.
2) I lost the pin out of a 4 inch Deltana brass hinge, do I have to replace the whole hinge?
No. The HPR40 barrel pin is sold on its own, one pin per unit, for exactly that repair on a DSB4 Series 4 inch brass hinge. Drop the door, drive the new 3-3/8 inch pin down through the knuckles, and the hinge is back in service. Order one per hinge you are fixing.
3) Will a stainless pin work in a solid brass hinge, or will it react?
The HPR40 is stainless steel through and through, and it is what Deltana supplies for its solid brass DSB4 hinges. Stainless is the harder material of the two, so the pin takes the wear rather than the brass knuckle. Finish is brushed stainless, so it reads silver in the barrel rather than matching a polished or antique brass hinge.
4) Is the Deltana HPR40 hinge pin rated for commercial door traffic?
Deltana classifies the HPR40 as residential hardware. For apartment interiors, condo units, and single family doors it is the correct repair part. On a high traffic commercial opening, a Grade 1 commercial hinge with its own pin is the better path than repinning a residential brass hinge.
5) Is the HPR40 a plain barrel pin or does it have a decorative finial tip?
Plain barrel pin. The HPR40 is the straight replacement pin, 1/4 inch diameter and 3-3/8 inches long, not a ball tip, urn tip, or steeple finial pin. If you want a decorative tip on a Deltana 4 inch brass hinge you need the finial style pin, not this one.
