Deltana MSS005 Letter Box Sleeve, Stainless Steel

The MSS005 is a stainless steel liner for the cut hole in the door. When you core a rectangular opening for a mail slot, the raw edge of the door slab is left exposed inside the cut, and on a wood or metal door that edge takes moisture, mail scuffs and eventually splits. The sleeve lines that cut so mail passes through metal, not through bare door. It is not the mail slot itself and it has no flap or hinge, so you order it alongside a slot, not instead of one.

Three: the Deltana MS0030, MS211 and MS212. Those are the models Deltana states the MSS005 works with. If the slot on the door is another model or another brand, the MSS005 is not the sleeve for it.

Mounting hardware is in the bag. Each MSS005 ships individually poly bagged with its hardware, sold per each, so one unit does one opening. Nothing else is included, so the mail slot itself and any interior flap are separate line items.

US32D, brushed stainless steel, and that is the only finish the MSS005 is made in. It reads as a satin silver, so it sits well against a satin stainless or satin chrome slot and will not match a brass, bronze or oil rubbed slot on the outside face. In practice most of the sleeve sits inside the door cut where it is barely seen, but the visible lip at the edge will show.

Deltana rates the MSS005 as commercial exterior hardware and builds it from stainless steel, which is why it goes in the cut of a through-door mail slot on an entry door rather than an interior one. For a property manager standardizing a run of entry doors, one sleeve per opening in the same US32D finish keeps the whole building consistent.

Emtek makes a sleeve for its own Mail Slot series, the Emtek 2281, and that is the one to look at if the slot in the door is an Emtek. Mail slot sleeves are not cross brand parts, they are cut to the slot maker's opening, so pairing a Deltana sleeve to an Emtek slot or the reverse is how you end up with a lip that will not sit flush.

One per door. The MSS005 is sold each, one sleeve lining one mail slot cut, so the count matches your opening count rather than your slot count if any door is getting two slots. Order them at the same time as the MS0030, MS211 or MS212 slots so the whole run goes in on one trip instead of the sleeves arriving after the doors are already cut.
