Deltana PP4016U19 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Will a Deltana PP4016 push plate cover the marks left by an older push plate on my door?
The PP4016 measures 4 x 16 inches, so it covers the footprint of a same-size plate. If the plate coming off is a 3-1/2 x 15 inch size, which is the other common push plate size we stock (Delaney offers both a 3-1/2 x 15 and a 4 x 16 push plate), the PP4016 is the larger of the two and will hide the smaller plate's outline and old screw holes. Going the other direction does not work: a 3-1/2 x 15 will leave the old holes exposed.
2) Do I need to buy screws separately for the Deltana PP4016 push plate?
No separate hardware needed. The PP4016 ships in an individual poly bag with mounting hardware included, and it is sold each, so one order gets you one plate ready to mount.
3) Is a push plate or a pull plate what I need on this door?
Depends which side you are standing on. A push plate like the Deltana PP4016 is a flat stainless plate with no handle, mounted on the push side of a swinging door to take handprints and shoe scuffs off the finish. A pull plate has a handle attached and goes on the pull side. Most openings get one of each. If you need the pull side, look at a pull plate such as the Delaney 4 x 16 inch pull plate or, for higher-traffic commercial work, the Ives 8302 heavy duty pull plate.
4) Will the Deltana PP4016 fit on a narrow stile aluminum storefront door?
Check your stile before ordering. The PP4016 is 4 inches across its short dimension, so the flat face of the stile has to be at least that wide plus clearance from the glass stop and the lock edge. Narrow stile aluminum doors typically run around 2 inches of face, which the 4 inch plate will overhang. Medium and wide stile doors, and flush wood or hollow metal doors, take it without trouble.
5) What is the closest equivalent to the Deltana PP4016 push plate in the same 4 by 16 inch size?
The Deltana PP4016 is a 4 inch by 16 inch stainless steel push plate. The Delaney 4" x 16" Push Plate covers the same 4 by 16 inch plate footprint, so it lands on the same door prep and the same visual proportion on the stile. Both are push plates rather than pull plates, meaning a flat protective plate with no projecting handle, so either one suits a door that is pushed open from the strike side.
6) What if a 4 by 16 inch push plate is too large for the door stile?
The Deltana PP4016 measures 4 inches by 16 inches. Where the stile is narrow or a shorter plate is wanted, the Delaney 3-1/2" x 15" Push Plate is a smaller plate at 3-1/2 inches by 15 inches, half an inch narrower and an inch shorter, which keeps the plate clear of a narrow-stile aluminum or glass door frame edge.
7) I need something to pull the door open, not push it. What do I order instead of the PP4016?
The PP4016 is a push plate, a flat plate with no handle, so it only serves the push side of a swinging door. For the pull side, the Delaney 4" x 16" Door Pull Plate matches the same 4 by 16 inch plate size with a pull, and the Delaney 3-1/2" x 15" Door Pull Plate is the smaller counterpart. A typical single door gets a push plate on one face and a pull plate on the other, so these are usually ordered together rather than as a substitution.
8) What finishes does the Deltana PP4016 stainless push plate come in?
Two: brushed stainless and paint black. Brushed stainless is the one that blends with existing stainless door hardware in a commercial corridor; paint black is the choice when the rest of the trim on the opening is black. Both are the same 4 x 16 inch stainless steel plate underneath.
9) How thick is the Deltana PP4016 push plate, and is it stiff enough for a commercial door?
The plate gauge is 1.10mm of solid stainless steel, and Deltana rates the PP4016 for commercial use. That thickness is enough to sit flat against the door face and take daily hand traffic without oil-canning. For openings that take carts, gurneys, or constant heavy traffic, a heavy duty plate like the Ives 8302 or the Trimco 1010 Series is the step up.
10) Can I standardize a whole building's doors on the Deltana PP4016?
Yes, and that is what the 4 x 16 inch size is for. It is a single stainless steel plate with no handing, no function code, and no keying, so the same part number covers every swinging door in the building regardless of which way it swings. Order the same finish across the fleet, brushed stainless or paint black, and every opening matches. Pair each with a pull plate on the opposite side where the door is pulled from one direction.
11) I have an exit device on the door. Can I use the Deltana PP4016 push plate with it?
Not on the push side. A door with an exit device is pushed on the device, not on a plate, so the PP4016 has no job there. What those openings usually need is a pull on the outside, and for Detex Value Series exit devices that is the Detex P/PN Series pull plate, which is built to mount with that device. A PP4016 still works on any adjacent door in the same corridor that has no device on it.
12) What are the decorative alternatives to a plain stainless push plate?
The Deltana PP4016 is plain stainless steel, supplied in brushed stainless or paint black. Where the opening calls for a decorative treatment instead, Emtek offers push and pull plate sets in three patterns: the Knoxville series, the Modern series, and the Lost Wax Cast Bronze Petal series. The Emtek sets pair a push and a pull plate together, while the PP4016 is bought as a single push plate per face.
13) For a high-traffic commercial opening, what heavier-duty plate should I look at over the Deltana PP4016?
The PP4016 is a 1.10mm gauge stainless steel plate rated for commercial use. Where the opening takes constant traffic and the plate is also doing the pulling, the Ives 8302 Heavy Duty Pull Plate with Through Bolt Mounting and the Ives 8303 Heavy Duty Pull Plate with 8" or 10" Center-to-Center Mounting are both heavy duty; the 8302 mounts through-bolted, which carries pull load through the door rather than into screws in the face. The Trimco 1010, 1012 and 1013 pull plates are also heavy duty cast plates. Note these are pull plates, so they answer the pull side of the opening, not the push side the PP4016 covers.
14) Is a Trimco 1014 pull plate a substitute for a Deltana PP4016?
No, they do different jobs on the door. The PP4016 is a flat push plate for the push face. The Trimco 1014 is a half-round pull plate with a 6 inch center-to-center pull, so it carries a projecting handle for the pull face. The Trimco 1010 has a 5 inch center-to-center pull and the Trimco 1012 and 1013 both use a 5.5 inch center-to-center pull, which matters when matching an existing pull spacing but does not make any of them a push plate.
15) Which pull plate matches an existing 8 inch center-to-center pull spacing on our other doors?
The Ives 8303 Heavy Duty Pull Plate is offered with 8 inch or 10 inch center-to-center mounting, so it is the one to check against existing spacing on a fleet of doors. The Trimco 1010 comes with a 5 inch center-to-center pull, the Trimco 1012 and 1013 with 5.5 inch, and the Trimco 1014 with 6 inch. The Deltana PP4016 is a push plate with no pull, so center-to-center spacing does not apply to it and it can go on the push face regardless of what pull spacing the pull side uses.
