Deltana R2012 Wall-Mounted Soap Dish, R-Series

Projection is 5-1/4 inches off the finished wall, with a 2-5/8 inch base where it mounts. That projection matters in a tight powder room or beside a swinging shower door, so lay it out before you drill. Mount it clear of the door swing and clear of anyone's elbow at the lavatory.

Seven finishes: PVD Polished Brass, Polished Brass, Oil Rubbed Bronze, Polished Nickel, Brushed Nickel, Antique Nickel, Paint Black, and Polished Chrome. Because the whole R-Series shares the same finish range, the towel bars, rings and paper holders in that series will match this dish when you order the same finish code. PVD Polished Brass is the one to choose if you want a brass look that won't need polishing.

Surface mount. It fastens to the face of the finished wall and projects 5-1/4 inches out; there is no cutout or rough-in required. If your drawing calls for a recessed dish set into the tile field, this is the wrong type and you want a recessed unit instead.

It's a wall-mounted accessory with a 2-5/8 inch base, so the small footprint rarely lands on a stud. In tile, most installers set it with anchors rated for the substrate behind the tile, or with adhesive rated for wet areas. A soap dish carries very little load, but it does get leaned on, so anchor to the backer board rather than relying on grout.

The R2012 is solid brass through the body, not plated zinc or plastic, and Deltana rates the R-Series for commercial use. That's the reason it shows up in hospitality and multi-family work: brass takes repeated cleaning and wet-area humidity better than pot metal, which pits once the plating wears.

Both read as polished brass. PVD is a vapor-deposited coating over the brass that resists tarnish and doesn't need regular polishing, which is why it's the usual pick for a rental or hotel bath where nobody is going to maintain it. Standard polished brass is a lacquered finish and will patina over time in a humid bathroom. Same R2012 dish, same 5-1/4 inch projection either way.
