Deltana SCWB14125 Wood Screw, Solid Brass, #14 x 3/4"

Eleven finishes are offered on the SCWB14125 screw: PVD Polished Brass, Polished Brass, Unlacquered Brass, Antique Brass, Polished Nickel, Brushed Nickel, Antique Nickel, Polished Chrome, Brushed Chrome, Oil Rubbed Bronze, and Paint Black. That range is the point of the part, matching the screw head to the finish on the hinge, plate, or knocker it is holding rather than leaving a plated steel screw showing.

Solid brass, not a plated steel screw. Both the material and substrate on the SCWB14125 are brass, which is why it can be finished to match Deltana trim and why it will not rust-streak a painted or stained door the way a plated steel screw can once the coating is nicked by a driver bit.

Unit of measure is each, so the SCWB14125 brass wood screw is priced and shipped per screw. If you are hanging a set of hinges or mounting several plates, count the holes and order that quantity.

It is a #14 gauge wood screw. That is a heavy gauge for door hardware, the size typically specified under door knockers, pulls, and heavier surface-mounted brass trim rather than light strike plates. Drill a pilot hole in hardwood; brass is softer than steel and a #14 will twist off if you drive it dry into oak.

No. The Unlacquered Brass option is bare brass with no clear coat, so it darkens and patinas over time; the Polished Brass and PVD Polished Brass options hold their color. Match the screw to what the hardware is: pick unlacquered only if the plate or knocker beside it is also living finish, otherwise the screw heads will age away from the trim.

Deltana lists the solid brass wood screw line as residential, and it sits with door trim and accessories. For a property manager or remodeler, it is the right screw for decorative brass trim on entry doors, interior hinges, and hardware where the head shows. High-cycle commercial openings are usually specified with hardened steel fasteners instead.
