Deltana SCWS975 Wood Screw, Steel, #9 x 3/4"

The SCWS975 is sold in 11 finishes, so you can match most Deltana trim: Oil Rubbed Bronze, Brushed Nickel, Antique Nickel, Paint Black, Polished Chrome, Brushed Chrome, Zinc Dichromate, Polished Brass, Brushed Brass, Antique Brass, and Prime Coat White. Order the screw in the same finish as the plate or trim it fastens so the head disappears into the hardware instead of standing out.

At 3/4 inch, the SCWS975 is a short fastener. It has enough length for surface-mounted trim going into solid wood, a door stop base, a strike or catch plate, or a decorative rosette, where the substrate behind it is only the door or jamb face. It is not a hinge screw for a heavy door, and it will not reach through a jamb into the framing stud behind it. If you need bite into the rough framing, step up to a 2-1/2 or 3 inch screw of the same gauge.

Steel, both the base material and the substrate. Plain steel with a decorative plating is a dry, interior fastener. For an exterior door, a gate, or anything that sees weather or coastal air, use a stainless screw instead, since the plating on a steel screw is cosmetic and will not stop rust once it is scratched by the driver.

The SCWS975 is a residential-grade fastener, and the 3/4 inch length limits it to light surface trim. For a commercial opening in a high-traffic building, particularly anything carrying a door's weight or taking abuse at a public entry, specify a longer fastener with real embedment into framing. The SCWS975 makes sense in a commercial setting only for cosmetic trim pieces where the finish match matters more than the load.

Prime Coat White is a paintable finish. The screw ships with a primer coat so you can paint it to match a painted door, painted trim, or a custom color the standard plated finishes do not cover. Property managers repainting a fleet of units use it where a chrome or brass head would read as a defect against white millwork. The other ten finishes are decorative platings and are not meant to be painted over.

Zinc dichromate is the utility option in the SCWS975 range, a yellow-tinted plating meant for corrosion resistance on concealed fasteners rather than for looks. Use it where the screw is hidden behind a plate or under trim. If the head will be visible next to hardware, pick the matching decorative finish instead, such as Antique Brass or Brushed Nickel.
