Deltana SPE200U19 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Will the Deltana SPE200 strike plate cover the mortise from my old strike, or do I need to patch the jamb?
The SPE200 has a 2-1/4 inch base width and measures 2 inches overall, with a 1-1/2 inch lip extension. Standard residential strike prep in a wood jamb is typically routed for a 2-1/4 by 1-1/8 inch plate, so the SPE200's wider footprint covers that older mortise on the width but you may need to deepen the routing to get the full 2 inch dimension flush. On a jamb already prepped for a 2-1/4 inch plate, the screw holes are the part to check before you cut.
2) What does the extended lip on the Deltana SPE200 strike actually do for me?
The lip runs 1-1/2 inches out from the plate, which is what carries the latch across a deep or built-out casing so the bolt doesn't drag on the trim. If your jamb sits proud of the stop, or you have thick applied casing on the strike side, a standard short-lip strike leaves the latch riding on wood; the extended lip gives it a ramp all the way in. On a flush jamb with no casing overhang, you don't need the extra lip.
3) Do I get a dust box with the Deltana SPE200, or do I have to order that separately?
The SPE200 is the face plate on its own. If the opening needs a boxed pocket behind the bolt, that is a separate line item, and ZenSupply carries the Kwikset 81231-001 Metal Strike Dust Box and the Kwikset 81640 Strike Box for that. On most residential latch openings the jamb is simply drilled and no box is used.
4) My door isn't latching because the jamb shifted. Is a lipped strike like the SPE200 the fix, or do I want an adjustable strike?
Two different problems. The SPE200 is a fixed lipped strike, so it solves reach across trim, not alignment drift. If the door has settled and the bolt lands high, low, or short of the hole, an adjustable strike is the right part, and ZenSupply carries the Kwikset 80318 Full Round Adjustable Strike and the Kwikset 81825 6 Way Adjustable Deadlatch for that. Use the SPE200 when the geometry is right and you're replacing or upgrading the plate itself.
5) We're a commercial property doing a lobby refresh. Is a Deltana SPE200 the right strike for an aluminum storefront door?
No. The SPE200 is a replacement strike for residential lock sets, cut for wood jamb prep. Aluminum storefront and euro-profile locks take an ASA-shape strike, and ZenSupply carries the Codelocks ASA Strike Plate in stainless for that application. Keep the SPE200 for wood-framed openings: apartments, offices with wood jambs, corridor and unit doors.
6) What deadbolt strike plate can be used instead of the Deltana SPE200?
The SPE200 is an extended lip strike with a 2-1/4 inch base width, 2 inch overall height and a 1-1/2 inch lip extension, made of solid brass, sold as a replacement strike for residential locks. If the opening needs a strike specifically for a deadbolt, the Emtek 83223 is a standard deadbolt strike plate with square corners. The choice comes down to whether you are covering a latch strike opening with an extended lip or prepping for a deadbolt bolt throw.
7) The door has settled and the bolt no longer lines up - is there an adjustable strike instead of the Deltana SPE200?
The SPE200 is a fixed extended lip strike, 2-1/4 inch base width by 2 inch overall, in solid brass. When alignment is the problem, the Kwikset KWI-80318 is a full round adjustable strike, and the Kwikset 81825 is a 6 way adjustable deadlatch, which adjusts at the latch side rather than the jamb. Use the fixed brass strike where the prep is already correct and the adjustable parts where the bolt or latch needs to be brought back into line.
8) Is a Kwikset strike box the same thing as the Deltana SPE200?
No. The SPE200 is the visible faceplate that mounts on the jamb, 2-1/4 inch base width by 2 inch overall with a 1-1/2 inch lip, in solid brass and offered in finishes including Oil Rubbed Bronze and Polished Brass. The Kwikset 81640 is a strike box and the Kwikset 81231-001 is a metal strike dust box - those sit inside the jamb mortise behind the plate to catch the bolt. On many installs both are used together, so ordering one does not replace the other.
9) Is the Deltana SPE200 solid brass all the way through, or plated steel?
Solid brass, both the material and the substrate. That matters in two places: it won't rust out on an exterior opening or a coastal building, and a locksmith can file or dress the lip on site to tune the latch without cutting through a plating layer to bare steel.
10) Can I match the Deltana SPE200 strike to the lever finishes already on my building's doors?
Seven finishes are made: Oil Rubbed Bronze, Polished Nickel, Brushed Nickel, Polished Chrome, Brushed Chrome, Polished Brass, and Paint Black. That covers the common residential and light commercial trim palettes, so a property manager replacing strikes across a floor can hold the same finish on every opening rather than mixing a raw plate into a matched set.
11) I need a stainless strike for a code lock - does the Deltana SPE200 work?
The SPE200 is a solid brass extended lip strike, finished in options such as Brushed Nickel, Polished Chrome and Paint Black, and dimensioned 2-1/4 inch by 2 inch. For a Codelocks opening, the Codelocks ASA strike plate is an ASA series strike in a stainless steel finish, which is the strike matched to that lock line. Choose the Deltana plate where the jamb prep suits an extended lip strike and the finish needs to match brass or plated door hardware.
12) Is the Deltana SPE200 strike handed? Do I need to specify left or right?
Handing does come up with lipped strikes, because the lip has to face the direction the door swings and the plate has to be oriented so the latch ramps in rather than catching the edge. Ordering the SPE200 needs only a finish choice, so the part you receive is one plate installed to suit the swing on your opening rather than a hand-specific version.
13) How many Deltana SPE200 strikes come in a pack?
Sold each, one plate per unit, so a property manager restocking a maintenance shop or a contractor ordering per opening counts doors and orders that number. There is no carton multiple to work around.
