Design Hardware WS-CV-26D – Frequently Asked Questions

1) How far off the wall does the Design Hardware WS-CV wall stop hold the door?
Projection is 1-3/16 inches, on a 2-1/2 inch diameter base. That is how much clearance you get between the door face and the finished wall, so check that any lever, pull, or push plate on the door clears the wall within that distance. If the trim sticks out farther than about 1-3/16 inches, you want a longer-projection stop or a floor stop instead.
2) What fasteners come with the Design Hardware WS-CV convex wall stop, and will they hold in drywall?
Each stop ships with a 1-1/2 inch wood screw and a plastic toggler. The wood screw is for when you can land the stop on blocking or a stud; the toggler is the hollow-wall anchor for drywall between studs. On hollow drywall the toggler carries the load, so set it properly and do not substitute a plain plastic plug. For masonry or tile walls you will need your own anchors, since neither supplied fastener suits those substrates.
3) Can I use a wall stop instead of a floor stop on my openings?
A wall stop works when the door swings to within about an inch of a wall and there is solid backing or drywall to anchor into at the strike point. The WS-CV needs that wall within its 1-3/16 inch projection of the fully open door face. If the door swings into open space, stops short of any wall, or opens against a glass wall or a low chair rail, use a floor stop or an overhead stop instead. Wall stops are also the wrong choice where mopping and carpet would foul a floor unit, which is why they dominate in corridors.
4) What is the difference between a convex and a concave wall stop bumper?
The WS-CV uses a convex grey rubber bumper, meaning the rubber face domes outward. A convex face is the one to use when the door strikes it with a flat surface, such as the door face or a flat push plate, because contact lands at the center of the dome. A concave (dished) bumper is made to cradle a rounded object, typically a lever or knob end, catching it in the recess. Pick based on what actually hits the stop.
5) What finishes does the WS-CV convex wall stop come in?
Three finishes: 613 dark bronze, 626 satin chrome, and 606 satin brass. If you are standardizing a building, 626 satin chrome is the usual match for brushed stainless or chrome lever trim, 613 dark bronze pairs with oil-rubbed or dark bronze hardware, and 606 satin brass matches brushed brass trim. The bumper itself is grey rubber in all three.
6) Is the WS-CV wall stop handed, and does it matter which door swing I have?
No handing. The WS-CV is a round 2-1/2 inch diameter stop with a centered convex bumper, so it works on left-hand or right-hand doors and on either an in-swing or out-swing leaf. You only need one part number regardless of swing, which simplifies ordering when you are stocking for a whole building.
7) Is the WS-CV wall stop durable enough for a high-traffic commercial corridor?
The base is wrought stainless steel, brass, or bronze rather than cast zinc or plated pot metal, which is what you want where doors get thrown open all day. The wear item is the grey rubber bumper, and that is the part to plan on replacing over time rather than the base.
