1) Will the Detex D Trim work with a Detex 20 Series exit device?
Yes. The Detex D Trim outside pull is made for the 10, 20, 21, 27 and 30 Series exit devices, so a 20 Series rim device takes it directly. One exception on function: the double cylinder version is limited to the 10 and 30 Series.
2) Do I have to specify handing when ordering the Detex D Trim?
Yes, handing is an ordering choice. The trim is offered in left hand and right hand, and Detex ships RHR (right hand reverse) as standard unless LHR is specified. Get the door handing confirmed before you order, because the lever has to swing with the door.
3) What function options does the Detex D Trim pull plate come in?
Five functions: dummy lever (pull only, no latch retraction), lever always active, key locks/unlocks lever, key unlocks lever with the lever relocking when the key is removed, and a double cylinder version restricted to 10 and 30 Series devices. In BHMA terms Detex lists 02 as the dummy vandal pull and 03 as key retracts latch vandal pull.
4) My tenants keep snapping the outside lever off the exit device. Does this trim hold up?
That is what the break-away design addresses. An internal clutch lets the lever disengage when it is forced past the locking point. It drops down and looks broken, but you pull it back to its original position and it resets, so a vandalized lever is a walk-up fix rather than a parts order.
5) Can I change the trim function without pulling the exit device off the door?
Yes. The D Trim mounts to a device mounting plate, so the trim itself can be swapped to change function while the exit device stays on the door. Useful if a classroom or storage opening needs to go from dummy pull to keyed access later.
6) Which Detex D Trim function should I pick for an exit-only door that nobody enters through?
The dummy lever. It gives a pull on the outside with no latch retraction, so the door stays exit-only and the lever still has break-away protection against abuse.
