1) What is the difference between the Detex 01 and 03 trim functions?
Function 01 is exit only with a cover plate, meaning no outside operation at all, the door is egress only from inside. Function 03 is key retracts latch, so a cylinder on the outside lets authorized staff pull the latch back and enter. Pick 01 for a door that should never be entered from outside, 03 for a service or staff door that needs keyed entry.
2) Can I change my Detex exit device from exit-only to keyed entry without taking the device off the door?
Yes. The W/WM trim works with the device mounting plate, so a function change is made by swapping only the outside trim, for example going from the 01 cover plate to the 03 key retracts latch version. The exit device itself stays mounted and the door prep does not change.
3) What finishes does the Detex W/WM exit trim come in?
Seven BHMA finishes across both trim types and both functions: 605 polished brass, 606 brushed brass, 611 polished bronze, 612 brushed bronze, 613 oil rubbed bronze, 629 polished stainless, and 630 brushed stainless. If you are matching existing openings in a building, 630 brushed stainless is the common commercial standard and 605/606 match brass pull hardware.
4) Does the Detex 01W trim include a cylinder?
The 01 function is an exit only cover plate, so there is nothing to key and no cylinder is involved. If you need keyed outside access, order the 03 key retracts latch version instead, and plan on supplying a cylinder to suit your keyway and keying system.
5) Will this Detex trim work on a rim exit device from another brand?
No. The W and WM trims are matched to Detex 10, 20, 21 and 30 Series pull plate devices and mount to those devices' mounting plates. Another manufacturer's rim device uses its own trim and prep, so you would need that maker's trim instead.
