Detex SIFV-EX-W-HD-36IN – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What does the Detex SIFV-EX-W-HD slide-in filler kit actually do on an inactive door?
It fills the pushbar space on the inactive leaf of a pair where no active latching device is used, while still giving you hex dogging and a weatherized request-to-exit signal. Detex builds it as a Value Series exit device part, so it slides into a compatible Value Series inactive-door configuration rather than requiring a new device or extra door prep.
2) Which door widths does the Detex slide-in filler kit come in?
Two sizes are offered, 36 and 48, so you match the kit to the inactive leaf width. The SIFV-EX-W-HD-36IN is the 36 inch door configuration; order the 48 size if the inactive leaf is a 48 inch door. Measure the leaf the filler is going on, not the active leaf.
3) Can I use this filler kit on the active leaf of a pair of doors?
No. It is engineered for the inactive leaf, where there is no latching pushbar. The active leaf still needs a full exit device with its own latch and trim; the filler kit only covers the inactive side and carries the hex dogging and weatherized RX for that leaf.
4) Why choose the weatherized request-to-exit version instead of a standard filler kit?
Pick the weatherized version when the opening is exterior or otherwise exposed. The request-to-exit mechanism on this kit is built to keep working through moisture, dust and swinging temperatures, which is what you want on a storefront, loading area or any pair that sees weather. On a clean interior corridor pair, a filler without the weatherized RX is enough.
5) Does this Detex kit include dogging, and what does hex dogging mean day to day?
Hex dogging is included. With a hex key you hold the latch retracted so the pair works push/pull during business hours, then undog it to return to latching. It is a mechanical dogging function, so no power is needed to hold the door in the dogged state.
6) Is the Detex SIFV-EX-W-HD a genuine Detex part or an aftermarket filler?
It is a factory Detex Value Series part, catalogued by Detex as a replacement component, so it matches the fit and function of the original Value Series hardware. For a property manager standardizing a building on Detex, that means the dogging and RX behavior stays consistent with the devices already hung on the other openings.
7) Is this filler kit rated for commercial traffic or is it a light-duty part?
Detex classes it as commercial hardware, built for the traffic you see in offices, schools, healthcare corridors, retail entries and warehouse openings. It is not a residential part.
