Detex SIFV-EX-W-LD-48IN – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What does the Detex SIFV slide-in filler kit actually do on an exit device?
The SIFV-EX-W-LD is a slide-in filler kit for Detex Value Series exit devices. It fills the rail section of the device and carries the weatherized Request to Exit switch, so it is used as a field replacement part to restore or upgrade the exit hardware rather than as a complete exit device. You still need the exit device itself; this kit slides into a compatible Detex Value Series rail.
2) Which door widths does the Detex SIFV-EX-W-LD filler kit cover?
Two lengths are offered: a 36 in. kit and a 48 in. kit, matched to the length of the exit device rail it slides into. Order the kit that matches your device size, not the door leaf, since exit device rails are sized separately from the opening.
3) Will this Detex filler kit work if my exit device has hex dogging?
No. The SIFV-EX-W-LD is the less-dogging version, supplied without a dogging function. If your Value Series device is set up with dogging, this kit is the wrong configuration and you need the dogging variant of the filler kit instead. Less dogging is what you want on fire-rated or security openings where holding the latch retracted is not permitted.
4) What does the weatherized Request to Exit option add for an access control job?
The kit includes a Request to Exit switch built into the filler, in a weatherized form. That gives an integrator a signal from the push rail to shunt an alarm or release a mag lock or electric strike when someone pushes to exit. The weatherized build is meant for openings exposed to moisture, so it suits exterior and vestibule doors where a standard REX switch would be at risk.
5) Is this Detex part suitable for an exterior door, or is it interior only?
Exterior openings are the point of it. The weatherized construction is intended for doors exposed to moisture and outdoor conditions, including vestibules and weather-exposed entries. For a dry interior corridor door a non-weatherized filler kit would do the same job.
6) Can I install this Detex filler kit on an existing device without pulling the whole exit device off the door?
Yes, it is built as a field retrofit. The filler slides into a compatible Detex Value Series rail, so the work is done at the device rather than replacing the hardware and re-prepping the door. That keeps labor down on a repair call and is the usual reason a property manager or locksmith orders the filler instead of a new device.
7) What do I need to specify when ordering the Detex SIFV filler kit so I get the right one?
Four things are baked into the part number: SIFV for the slide-in filler, EX-W for the weatherized Request to Exit, LD for less dogging, and the rail length, either 36 in. or 48 in. Confirm your device's rail length and whether it is a dogging or less-dogging device before you pick, because those two choices are not interchangeable in the field.
8) Is this Detex kit rated for commercial traffic or is it a light-duty part?
It is a commercial-grade component, classified commercial rather than residential, and Detex lists it for offices, schools, healthcare, retail, industrial and warehouse, and government buildings. That makes it appropriate for standardizing repairs across a facility running Detex Value Series exit hardware.
