Dexter DB1000 Series - Grade 1 Single Cylinder Deadbolt

The DB1000 covers 1-3/8 inch through 1-7/8 inch doors with the conventional cylinder, so a thinner older interior door and a standard 1-3/4 inch commercial door both work off the same part. Order the SFIC prep version and the range shifts up: 1-5/8 inch to 2 inch. That matters if you're mixing thin doors and interchangeable core in one building, because a 1-3/8 inch door is outside the SFIC range.

The DB1000 ships with a universal latch that sets to either 2-3/8 inch or 2-3/4 inch backset (p/n 30-253), so it drops onto either of the two standard bored preps without ordering a different latch. You are matching the existing cross-bore, not buying a second part.

It comes with a 1-1/8 by 2-3/4 inch square corner lipless strike. If your frame is cut for a square corner strike of that size, the new one drops straight into the existing mortise. Radius corner prep will not match, and a lipped strike prep leaves a gap, so plan on refiling the frame or ordering a strike that matches what's cut.

The Dexter DB1000 is offered in an SFIC prep less core configuration alongside the conventional 6-pin Schlage C cylinder. If you are standardizing a facility on interchangeable cores, the Delaney LM Series is a Grade 1 single cylinder less core deadbolt in dull chrome US26D. In Grade 2, the Deltana CL200LAIC is a single deadbolt supplied interchangeable core non-cylinder with a 2-3/4 inch backset, and the Arrow E61 is a Grade 2 single cylinder deadlock in SFIC prep less core for 1-3/8 to 1-3/4 inch doors.

Use the Cal-Royal CRB800, a Grade 1 heavy duty single cylinder deadbolt supplied with a UL 3-hour fire rated latch, in cylinder x thumbturn function. Hager also lists fire rated deadbolts in this size class: the 3118 is a Grade 1 cylinder x thumbturn deadbolt with a Schlage C keyway and a 6-pin cylinder, covering 1-3/8 to 1-3/4 inch doors, and the 3115 is the Grade 2 equivalent, also Schlage C. The Dexter DB1000 is a Grade 1 deadbolt that is non UL listed 3 hour, so on a rated opening one of those is the substitution to make.

The Accentra D111 is the nearest straight equivalent: it is a Grade 1 deadbolt with the same cylinder x thumbturn function, built with a 2-3/8 inch backset. The Falcon D111 is another Grade 1 cylinder x thumbturn deadbolt, rated heavy duty, with an adjustable backset if the door prep is not fixed at one dimension. Where they differ from the DB1000 is door thickness: the Accentra D111 covers 1-3/8 to 1-3/4 inch, while the Dexter DB1000 covers 1-3/8 to 1-7/8 inch on a standard cylinder.

The Dexter DB1000 takes 1-3/8 to 1-7/8 inch doors on a standard cylinder and 1-5/8 to 2 inch in SFIC prep. For thicker stock, the Corbin Russwin DL3011 Grade 1 cylindrical deadlock covers 1-3/4 to 2-1/4 inch. If the door is a fixed 1-3/4 inch, the Corbin Russwin DL3211 Grade 1 deadlock and the Design Hardware D1 Series Grade 1 extra heavy duty deadbolt are both built for that thickness. Note that the DL3011 and DL3211 are cylinder x blank, not cylinder x thumbturn, and the Design Hardware D1 is double cylinder, so the inside operation differs from the DB1000's thumbturn.

For key-both-sides on a comparable duty level, the Design Hardware D1 Series is a Grade 1 extra heavy duty double cylinder deadbolt for 1-3/4 inch doors. In Grade 2, the Hager 3214 is a double cylinder deadbolt with a Schlage C keyway fitting 1-3/8 to 1-3/4 inch doors, which matches the DB1000's Schlage C keyway, and the Delaney LU Series is a Grade 2 double cylinder deadbolt in stainless steel US32D.

A few in the same aisle are a different animal. The Emtek 2050 and 2051 are European mortise deadbolts with an integrated roller latch, so they need a mortise pocket rather than the bored prep the DB1000 uses. The Dormakaba D900 is a small case mortise deadbolt with a D cylinder, keyed different in SC keyways, also mortise. The Codelocks CL200 is a surface deadbolt with key override and the CL2200 is an electronic surface deadbolt, both mounted on the door face. The Arrow 460 is not a lock at all but a mortise lock strike for latchbolt x deadbolt functions with a straight lip. The Dexter DB1000 is a bored deadbolt supplied with a 2-3/8 inch x 2-3/4 inch universal square corner latch, p/n 30-253, and a 1-1/8 inch x 2-3/4 inch square corner lipless strike.

The Dexter DB1000 accommodates Schlage conventional 6-pin cylinders in the Schlage C keyway, keyed different. The DB1000 is single cylinder: key outside, thumbturn inside. That's the right call on most egress doors, since occupants leave by turning the thumbturn with no key. Double cylinder needs a key on both sides and is generally restricted where egress is required, but it stops someone reaching through adjacent glass. Two choices, four combinations total. Cylinder: KDC conventional 6-pin Schlage C keyed different, or SFIC prep less core if you supply your own core. Finish: 626 satin chrome or 613 oil rubbed bronze. Both cylinder options are offered in both finishes. Latch and strike come in the box, so nothing else is required to hang it.

Grade 1 is the top ANSI/BHMA durability and security tier and is what spec writers call for on commercial and multi-family entry openings; Grade 2 is the medium duty tier. Use the Arrow E60, a Grade 2 exit deadlock in blank plate x thumbturn function, non-keyed, for 1-3/8 to 1-3/4 inch doors. It throws the bolt from the inside thumbturn with a blank plate outside instead of a cylinder. If the bolt only needs to be operated from one face on a half-bore prep, the Callan Model 205S is a Grade 3 one-sided half-bore deadbolt. The Dexter DB1000 is keyed, single cylinder outside with a thumbturn inside, so both of those change how the door is secured from the exterior.

Several. The Arrow DBX61 is a Grade 2 single cylinder deadbolt in the same cylinder x thumbturn function. The Cal-Royal CB160 is a Grade 2 single cylinder deadbolt that adds a tamper-resistant cylinder guard. Bravura's 310B Elite, 310RC Elite and 310SC Elite are Grade 2 cylinder x thumbturn deadbolts in traditional round, contemporary round and contemporary square trim. Stepping down again, the Cal-Royal ED500 is Grade 3 with an adjustable backset and the Cal-Royal LSD is Grade 3 with an ADA ergonomic thumbturn, both fitting 1-3/8 to 1-3/4 inch doors. The Dexter DB1000 is Grade 1 and carries a 1-3/8 to 1-7/8 inch standard cylinder door range, which is the wider of the two.
