The RP 13509 covers 9 inches in length by 3-1/2 inches in width, so it hides door prep damage that falls inside that footprint. Measure the wallowed-out or torn-up area on the door face before you order: anything wider than 3-1/2 inches across, or longer than 9 inches up and down, will still show past the edge of the plate. The new knob or lever passes through the centered hole in the plate, so the plate dresses the face while the lockset does the holding. It is formed from 0.032 steel, stiff enough to stay flat across the void rather than dishing into it.
2) Centered hole only or centered hole with thru-bolt holes: which RP 13509 remodeler plate do I order?
Two bolt hole configurations, and the lockset decides it for you. Centered Hole Only gives a single opening for the spindle and rose, which is what you want when the lock does not use through-bolts.
