1) Will the Don-Jo WP4L Frame Frog work in a wood or aluminum frame, or is it hollow metal only?
Hollow metal frames only. The WP4L Frame Frog is a backbox built specifically for electrified door hardware in hollow metal door frames, and it anchors with adjustable wing tabs that rotate up behind the frame face when the attachment screw is turned. That mechanism needs the hollow cavity and thin face of a hollow metal profile to grab. On a wood or aluminum storefront frame there is nothing for the tab to catch behind, so run your low voltage another way on those openings.
2) What size conduit does the Frame Frog wire pathway accept?
1/2 inch PVC conduit, and it is built around standard 90 degree sweeps run inside the doorframe. The port caps pop out so conduit attaches directly to the box, and the ports are funnel shaped so fish tape feeds into the conduit instead of catching on the lip. If your run is EMT or a larger trade size, this is not the box for it.
3) Does the Frame Frog fit if the frame already has hardware prep welded in behind it?
Yes, that case is handled. The WP4L has removable knockouts that open up clearance for door hardware prep welded to the frame, so you can set it over an existing strike box or reinforcement without cutting or grinding the frame. Knock out only the ones you need and leave the rest closed.
4) How many wire runs can come out of one Frame Frog box?
