The model 1838 multi-door access controller is ideal for small businesses, office buildings, factories, industrial sites, apartment complexes, or for any application that requires access control and reporting capabilities. The 1838 is a 2-door controller that easily expands to control up to 16 doors. This flexible system allows you to control access by means of encoded cards, five digit pins (personal identification number), wireless RF control, or with almost any 26-bit Weigand devices. Additionally, our elevator control module restricts which floors system users have access to, making it an ideal system for high rise buildings. For additional security, the 1838 allows you to monitor activity as it happens on your computer display and with our anti-pass back memory, you can enable a true anti-pass back system in one of three different configurations; passive, active and trap.

The 1838 ships as a 2-door controller and expands to control up to 16 doors. On the expansion side, you can add up to six more access control devices to the system, card readers, keypads, RF controls, or a relay board.
2) Will the 1838 controller work with the Wiegand card readers already installed on my building?
It accepts almost any 26-bit Wiegand device, and DoorKing offers a conversion board that lets you keep an existing 26-bit Wiegand reader in place. If your current readers are 26-bit Wiegand, you can reuse them instead of re-pulling wire and swapping heads.
3) How many users and card codes does the DoorKing 1838 hold?
Capacity is 100 maximum users, 100 device codes, and a 500-transaction event buffer. That sizes it for a small office, a single industrial site, or a small apartment building, if you are credentialing several hundred residents or employees, this is not the right controller.
4) How do you program a DoorKing 1838, and do you need to be on site?
No site visit needed. The 1838 is PC programmable over the Internet, a LAN, a modem, or a direct connection to a PC, and it is IP addressable so it can be programmed straight from a PC. DoorKing's software is a free download from doorking.com. You can also watch activity live on the computer display.
5) Does the DoorKing 1838 have an intercom or let visitors call a tenant?
No. The 1838 is a credential-only controller, it is meant for applications where visitor voice communication is not a requirement. Users get in by encoded card, five digit PIN, or wireless RF control. If you need a visitor to call an apartment and be buzzed in, you need a telephone entry unit, not this board.
6) Can the 1838 control which floors a tenant can reach in an elevator?
Yes, with DoorKing's elevator control module added to the system. It restricts which floors a given system user can select, which is how the 1838 gets used in high rise buildings. The module is a separate item, it is not part of the base 2-door controller.
7) Can I stop tenants from passing a card back to a friend at the gate?
Anti-pass back memory is built in, and it runs in three configurations: passive, active, and trap. Passive logs the violation, active blocks the second use, and trap holds the credential until it is cleared in and out in order. That is the feature to set up if card sharing at a parking gate is the problem you are solving.
8) Is the DoorKing 1838 a wireless controller or does it need to be hardwired?
It is a hardwired controller. The readers, keypads, and door devices land on the 1838 board by wire, though users themselves can present a card, punch a five digit PIN, or use a wireless RF control at the door.
