Dormakaba 09 ACTUATOR PACK – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What does the Dormakaba 09-ACTUATOR-PACK actually do inside an exit device?
It is the actuator assembly that transfers cylinder rotation into the exit device mechanism on Dormakaba devices built to the 09 function configuration. It is sold as a genuine OEM replacement pack for restoring cylinder-operated function on an existing device rather than as a complete trim or lock.
2) Will the 09-ACTUATOR-PACK work with a mortise cylinder that has a removable cam?
No. This actuator pack is built exclusively for cylinders without a removable cam. If the cylinder on the door uses a removable cam, the mechanical interface is different and you need the actuator pack matched to that cylinder type instead. Pull the cylinder and check the cam before ordering.
3) My Dormakaba exit device is a different function, not 09. Can I still use this actuator pack?
No. The pack is purpose-built to the 09 function specification and mates only with the corresponding 09 function exit device assemblies. Function codes on exit devices determine how the cylinder acts on the latch, so an actuator from a different function will not interface correctly. Confirm the device's function code stamped on the chassis or shown on the original hardware schedule first.
4) Do I have to replace the whole exit device, or can a maintenance tech swap just the actuator?
For a device where the cylinder no longer drives the mechanism, the actuator pack is a direct drop-in for compatible Dormakaba assemblies, so a tech can restore function without pulling the whole device off the door. That keeps the existing rails, trim, and strike prep in place, which matters on a fire-rated opening where the device is part of the listed assembly.
5) How do I order the right actuator pack for a Dorma exit device I am servicing?
Two things decide it: the device's function code and the cylinder's cam. This pack, model 09 ACTUATOR PACK, covers 09 function devices fitted with a cylinder that has no removable cam. Note the function code off the device or the door schedule, pull the cylinder to confirm the cam is fixed, and order to that combination. It is a single-configuration part, so there are no finish or handing options to specify.
6) Is this a commercial-grade part or something for residential doors?
Strictly commercial. The 09-ACTUATOR-PACK is catalogued for commercial door hardware use and is intended for exit devices in offices, schools, healthcare facilities, retail, warehouses, multi-tenant residential buildings, and government buildings.
7) Is the 09-ACTUATOR-PACK a genuine Dormakaba part or an aftermarket copy?
Genuine OEM. It is a factory replacement component from the Dorma exit device parts and trims line, made to the original specifications for the device it goes into, which is what keeps a repaired device performing the way the original assembly did.
