Dormakaba 64797-32D-01 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the Dormakaba 64797 latch work in a door bored for a 2-3/8 inch backset?
No. The 64797 is a fixed 2-3/4 inch backset latch, so the cross-bore has to sit 2-3/4 inches from the door edge. On a door prepped at 2-3/8 inches the latch tailpiece will not reach the lock chassis. For a 2-3/8 inch prep, an adjustable-backset drive-in latch such as the Deltana DLP23875, which covers both 2-3/8 and 2-3/4 inch, is the type to look at, though it is not an LD Series part.
2) Which Dormakaba locks does the 64797 latch fit?
It is built for the Dormakaba LD Series mechanical locks, and it is offered for the LD450 and LD470. Pick the series that matches the lock on the door; it is a genuine Dormakaba replacement part rather than a universal latch, so it drops into the existing lock prep without changing the chassis.
3) Do I have to replace the whole lockset if the latch on my LD470 has failed?
No. The 64797 is a replacement latch component, so a sticking or worn latch on an LD450 or LD470 can be repaired by swapping the latch alone and leaving the chassis, trim and keying in place. That keeps the opening standardized with the rest of your LD Series doors.
4) My door prep is 2-3/8 inch backset and I need a latch with an entry function. What are my options versus the Dormakaba 64797?
The Dormakaba 64797 is built to a 2-3/4 inch backset for LD Series mechanical locks, so it will not land correctly in a 2-3/8 inch prep. For a 2-3/8 inch prep, the Deltana DLE23875 is a drive-in latch with an adjustable backset in an entry function for doors 1-3/8 inch to 2 inch thick, and the Deltana DLP23875 covers passage and privacy with an adjustable 2-3/8 inch or 2-3/4 inch backset. The Kwikset 84290 is a square corner plainlatch at a 2-3/8 inch backset with a UL listing.
5) What model number do I give my supplier for the Dormakaba LD Series 2-3/4 inch latch?
The part is Dormakaba 64797, model 64797-32D-01, and you specify the lock series it is going into: LD450 or LD470. That series call-out is the only option to choose on this latch.
