OVERVIEW

Simplex Mechanical Pushbutton Locks eliminate problems and costs associated with issuing, controlling, and collecting keys and cards.

Simplex 9600 Series mechanical pushbutton lock uses to same combination system as our other pushbutton access controls and are specifically designed for cabinet doors, desk drawers, and similar applications. They are ideal for use in many locations, such as medicine chests, liquor cabinets, gun boxes, courier pick-up boxes, home entertainment units, cleaning supply cabinets, tool chests, private files, audio-visual cabinets, and petty cash drawers. This fully mechanical lock eliminates the material and labor expense of battery replacements, has a single access-code and is programmed via the keypad without removing the lock from the door.

DEFAULT OPTION SELECTION

The default option selections have been made based on the most commonly ordered configuration. If a model shows as backordered, it's likely ZenSupply has additional parts/accessories on hand to "build" the product and therefore ship the product faster.

Dormakaba 9661C10-26D-41 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Do I need a deadbolt or a spring latch on a Simplex 9600 cabinet lock?
It comes down to whether you want the cabinet to relock itself. The deadbolt version has to be manually relocked every time the door is closed, which suits a cabinet that stays open through a shift. The spring latch relocks automatically when the door shuts, which is what you want on a medicine chest, a narcotics cabinet or a cash drawer where somebody will forget. A third choice adds a key override to the spring latch so a supervisor can get in without the code.
2) What is the difference between end throw and cross throw on the Dormakaba 9600?
End throw sends the bolt straight out the end of the lock body, cross throw sends it out the side. Which one you need is decided by where the cabinet frame is relative to the lock, not by preference. The 9600 is offered as end throw, cross throw, or end throw supplied with the cross throw parts in the box, and that third option is the safe order when you are measuring off a drawing or a cabinet you have not opened yet.
3) Can multiple people have their own code on a Dormakaba Simplex 9600?
No. The 9600 is a single access code lock, one code shared by everyone who needs in. There is no user list, no audit trail and no way to give the night crew a separate code. Changing it is done on the keypad with the lock still mounted in the door, so a code rotation after staff turnover takes minutes and no tools. If you need per-user codes or an audit record, this is the wrong device for the job.
4) What do I have to specify when ordering a Dormakaba 9600 cabinet lock?
Four things decide the part: door material and thickness (wood 5/8 to 7/8 inch, or sheet metal by gauge or panel thickness), locking device (standard deadbolt, spring loaded latch, or spring latch with key override), bolt throw (end, cross, or end throw supplied with the cross throw parts), and finish (605, 606 or 626). Handing is not one of them, the lock is non-handed. Measure the door and confirm which side the bolt has to enter the frame before you pick the throw.
5) Is the Simplex 9600 a cabinet lock or will it work on a passage door?
Cabinet and drawer only. The 9600 is made for cabinet doors, desk drawers and similar enclosures, and the thickness range says so plainly: wood applications top out at 7/8 inch, well under a door slab. Typical uses are medicine chests, liquor and gun cabinets, tool chests, AV and entertainment units, private files and petty cash drawers. For a swinging door opening you need a full pushbutton lockset, not this.
6) Does the Simplex 9600 pushbutton cabinet lock use batteries?
None. It is fully mechanical, so there is no battery to change and no dead-battery lockout on a cabinet nobody has opened in six months. For an MRO or facilities crew running dozens of cabinets, that removes the whole PM line item that battery-powered keypads create.
7) Will a Simplex 9600 hold up on a cabinet the public can reach?
It is built for it. The keypad uses solid metal, vandal resistant pushbuttons rather than rubber or plastic caps, the faceplate is all metal cast, and the exterior knob is force resistant and protected. The knob runs on a ball bearing clutch, so twisting it hard against a locked bolt spins the knob instead of driving load into the mechanism. Substrate is brass or bronze and it is rated commercial rather than residential.
8) If someone forgets the combination on a Simplex 9600, is there a way in?
Only if you ordered the key override version. The spring loaded latch is offered with a key override, and that is the configuration to pick when the cabinet holds something you cannot afford to drill open. The standard deadbolt and plain spring latch versions have no override; access is the single code and nothing else. Since the code is reprogrammed through the keypad without pulling the lock, keeping the current code documented is the practical safeguard on the non-override models.
9) Can I get a keypad cabinet lock in a finish that matches the brass hardware already on my casework?
Three finishes are offered on the Simplex 9600: 605 bright brass, 606 satin brass and 626 satin chrome. If the cabinet pulls in the room are polished brass, 605 is the match; satin brass casework takes 606. Standardizing a run of cabinets on one of the three keeps the whole elevation consistent, and the same finish is available across the wood and sheet metal configurations.
