Dormakaba DPK89 689 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the Dormakaba DPK89 fastener kit work with door closers other than the 8900 Series?
The DPK89 self-drilling fastener set is built for Dormakaba 8900 Series door closers only. It is the OEM fastener package for that closer family, so if you are servicing a different Dormakaba series or another brand of closer, the screw pattern and thread spec are not guaranteed to match and you should source the fastener kit for that specific closer.
2) Do I need to drill pilot holes before installing the DPK89 closer fasteners?
No. Every fastener in the DPK89 kit is self-drilling, so in compatible substrates the screw cuts its own hole and you skip the pilot-drilling step. That is the point of the kit for a service tech working off a ladder on a hollow metal door and frame.
3) Does the DPK89 include all the screws needed to mount an 8900 Series closer, or just the body fasteners?
It is a complete set. The DPK89 includes all the self-drilling fasteners required for a full 8900 Series closer installation or replacement, covering the closer body and arm hardware, so you are not chasing loose screws from a separate bin to finish the job.
4) Is the DPK89 a genuine Dormakaba part or an aftermarket fastener pack?
Genuine OEM. The DPK89 is Dormakaba's own replacement fastener set for the 8900 Series, which matters if your facility standardizes on OEM parts for closer service records.
5) What finish do the DPK89 door closer fasteners come in?
The DPK89 fasteners are supplied in 689 aluminum finish, which is the standard painted aluminum match for commercial closer bodies and covers. If your 8900 closers were specified in 689, the heads will blend rather than stand out.
6) Is this fastener kit suitable for commercial buildings or is it a residential part?
Strictly a commercial part. The DPK89 is graded for commercial door hardware service and is used in offices, schools, healthcare facilities, retail, warehouses, multi-tenant residential buildings and government properties where 8900 Series closers are installed.
