1) What does the Dormakaba NETCOM2P network communication board actually do in a Keyscan access control system?
The NETCOM2P is the network communication board that gets a Keyscan access control system talking to the host server over the network. It plugs directly onto Keyscan's CIM (Communication Interlink Module) and carries communication to the server for multiple ACUs sitting on a CAN Bus network. So one NETCOM2P at the CIM serves the whole chain of panels behind it rather than needing one per door controller.
2) Will the NETCOM2P mount on a Keyscan PC109x panel, or does it only go on the CIM?
Both. The NETCOM2P is built for direct installation on PC109x ACU/ECU boards as well as on CIM communication boards. If your site runs a single PC109x panel with no interlink module, the board mounts right on that panel; if you have several ACUs daisy-chained on the CAN Bus, it goes on the CIM instead.
3) Is the connection from the Keyscan panel to the server encrypted with the NETCOM2P?
Yes, and the key length is yours to set. The NETCOM2P uses a user-defined encryption key of 128, 192, or 256 bits on the link between the panels and the server. For a government, healthcare, or education facility that has to justify the transport security of its access control traffic, the 256-bit option is there without buying a different board.
4) How many NETCOM2P boards do I need for a building with several Keyscan door controllers?
One per CAN Bus segment, not one per door. Because the board sits on the CIM and handles server communication for multiple ACUs across that CAN Bus network, a run of controllers behind a single CIM is covered by a single NETCOM2P. A site with separate panel groups that each terminate at their own CIM or standalone PC109x panel needs a board at each of those points.
5) Do I need any software to set up the NETCOM2P, or is it shipped separately?
Programming software ships with the board, on CD. You configure the NETCOM2P (network settings and the encryption key you choose) with that utility rather than sourcing a separate configuration tool. Worth knowing before you send a tech to site with a laptop that has no optical drive.
6) Is the NETCOM2P a Dormakaba or a Keyscan part?
Both names are correct. Keyscan is Dormakaba's access control line, and the NETCOM2P is the Dormakaba-branded network communication board for Keyscan hardware. If a drawing or an existing panel label calls for a Keyscan NETCOM2P, this is that part. Order by the model designation NETCOM2P.
