1) My Dormakaba track closer won't hold the door open anymore. Do I need a whole new closer?
Usually not. On 8000, 7400, and 7300 Series track closers the hold open is a separate assembly inside the track, and when the door stops staying open it's normally the nylon slide block or the hold open clip that has worn. The THKIT replaces both, plus the screw and the allen wrench to set it, so the existing closer body and track stay in place.
2) Can I put a hold open on a fire rated door with the Dormakaba THKIT?
A mechanical hold open like the THKIT keeps the door open until someone pushes it closed, which is not what a fire door opening needs. Fire rated openings that hold open require a closer that releases on alarm, an electromagnetic hold open or a closer/holder unit tied to the fire alarm. Use the THKIT on non-rated openings, and specify a release device on the rated ones.
3) Can I add hold open to a Dormakaba 8000 series track closer that doesn't have it?
The THKIT is the hold open assembly for 8000, 7400, and 7300 Series track installations, and it's the same slide block, clip and screw a factory hold open track uses. If your closer is a track model in one of those three series, this is the assembly that does the job. On a non-track (arm) closer it won't apply.
4) Do I need special tools to install the Dormakaba THKIT?
The allen wrench is in the kit. The slide block and hold open clip drop into the closer's existing track and the included screw sets the hold open position, so a maintenance tech can do it in the opening without pulling the closer body.
5) Will one Dormakaba THKIT cover a pair of doors?
One kit is one door. The THKIT contains a single slide block, clip and screw, which serves one closer in one track, so a pair of track closers needs two kits.
