Dormakaba RFR 433 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) How many RFR 433 receivers do I need if I have several Dorma wireless transmitter switches on one opening?
One receiver per frequency in use, not one per transmitter. The RFR 433 works on 433 MHz, so every DORMA transmitter switch running that frequency can report to the same receiver. If you also run switches on a different frequency, that frequency needs its own receiver.
2) What voltage does the Dormakaba RFR 433 receiver need, and can it run off the ED900 operator?
It runs on 12 or 24 volts, AC or DC, and draws 16 mA nominal with a 50 mA peak when the relay trips. On an ED900 swing door operator it can be powered directly from the operator's onboard power supply, so no separate transformer is needed for that install.
3) How far away can a wireless push plate be from the RFR 433 receiver?
About 50 feet is the typical maximum, conditions permitting. Metal doors, block walls, and elevator shafts between the transmitter and receiver cut that down, which is why the receiver mounts remotely rather than inside the operator header, so you can put it where the signal is strongest.
4) Will the RFR 433 work with any brand of wireless door actuator?
No. The RFR 433 is the receiver for DORMA transmitter switches and is required for them to function. Pair it with DORMA wireless actuators on 433 MHz; another manufacturer's wireless push plate is not something this receiver is specified to work with.
5) Our wireless actuators keep dropping out at the far end of the vestibule. Will adding this receiver help?
That is the case the RFR 433 is meant for. Because it surface mounts remotely from the operator, you can relocate the receiver closer to the transmitter switch instead of leaving it buried in the header, which is the usual fix for range and signal strength problems on DORMA wireless actuators.
6) Does the RFR 433 switch the door operator directly, or do I need a relay?
The receiver has its own onboard relay. The 50 mA maximum draw is specified for the moment the relay is triggered, against 16 mA sitting idle, so the dry contact output goes straight to the actuator input on the operator with no extra interface relay in the loop.
7) Is the RFR 433 a card reader or credential reader for access control?
It is neither. The RFR 433 is a radio frequency receiver that listens for 433 MHz signals from DORMA transmitter switches, typically wireless door activation plates, and closes a relay to trigger the operator. Card and credential readers for controlled entry are a different product entirely.
8) Do I have to order a specific frequency version of the Dormakaba RF receiver?
The receiver is offered in one model, the RFR 433, running 433 MHz. Match the transmitter switches you buy to that same frequency, since the receiver only picks up what is broadcast on its band.
