Interior or Exterior Applications:
The 1000 Series electromagnetic locks can be used in harsh environments to secure doors and gates. All electronics are sealed in epoxy and are protected by the Stainless Steel housing cover. The housing, armature and exposed face of the electric lock are nickel plated to resist rust and corrosion. A rigid conduit fitting can be provided on one end of the lock
to protect power wiring in gate control installations.
Fail-Safe Operation:
All Dortronics electromagnetic locks are failsafe, releasing instantly upon command or loss of power. There are no moving parts to wear, stick or bind. Without any bolt travel time or possibility of misalignment to raise concern, both locking and unlocking are accomplished with ease and efficiency.
Extended Service Life:
The rugged design and durable construction of this lock assures virtually endless actuations without fear of electrical fatigue or mechanical breakdown. This, combined with manufacturing to the most stringent quality control standards, allows Dortronics to offer a Lifetime Warranty on all electro-magnetic locks.
Universal Mounting:
The standard #1000 model is supplied with an adjustable mounting plate for use on outswing doors. The #TJ1000 unit is furnished with an angle lock mounting plate and an armature “Z” bracket for inswing door installations. Any 1000 series lock may be converted in the field for inswing door applications by adding the 1099-00 Conversion kit. An optional XCF conduit fitting is available for exterior gate control applications.
Low Current Draw:
All 1000 series locks can be operated on either 12 or 24 VDC. The efficient design of these locks requires only 170ma. @24 Volts DC to maintain the rated 1200 pound holding force. The well confined magnetic field combined with the builtin spike and surge suppression system of these locks, allow integration with any access control system. Able to be controlled individually or simultaneously from one or several locations make the use of these locks ideal for securing manual or automatically operated doors and gates.

Finish:
1000 series locks are encased in a brushed Stainless Steel housing suitable for interior or exterior applications. Electromagnet face and armature are electroless nickel plated for high resistance to rust and corrosion.

Wiring:
The 1000 series locks are supplied standard with a multiconductor, 20 gauge power cable 48” long. The configuration in which these leads are connected to the DC power source determines the operating voltage of the unit. (xCF option comes with 10’ leads) The optional SPDT Door Position switch has 3 color coded conductors.
Installation:
Typically these locks are mounted on outswinging doors using the mounting plate accompanying the unit. This mounting plate has elongated slots for ease of alignment and threaded holes for secure attachment of the lock to the plate. An access hole is also provided in the mounting plate to accommodate the power cable. The TJ-1000 units are supplied with an angle bracket prepared for attachment to the face of the door frame. A “Z” bracket is also furnished for mounting the armature plate to the inswing door or gate.

1) Can a Dortronics 1000 Series maglock be used on an inswing door, or is it outswing only?
Both, but it depends on what you order or add. The standard #1000 ships with an adjustable mounting plate for outswing doors. The #TJ1000 comes with an angle lock mounting plate and an armature Z bracket for inswing installations. Any 1000 Series lock already in the field can be converted to inswing by adding the 1099-00 conversion kit, so you are not stuck if the swing turns out different from the drawing.
2) Will a Dortronics 1000 maglock hold up mounted outdoors on a gate?
That is what it was built for. All electronics are sealed in epoxy and protected by a stainless steel housing cover, and the housing, armature and exposed lock face are nickel plated against rust and corrosion. For gate control runs, order the CF conduit fitting option, which puts a rigid conduit fitting on one end of the lock to protect the power wiring, and comes with 10 foot leads instead of the standard 48 inch cable.
3) Do I have to order a Dortronics 1000 maglock as 12 volt or 24 volt?
Neither, it is one part number for both. The 1000 Series operates on 12 or 24 VDC and the voltage is set in the field by how the leads of the multiconductor 20 gauge power cable are connected to the DC supply. That means a single unit on the shelf covers either panel output.
4) Does this Dortronics maglock unlock if the building loses power?
Yes. Every Dortronics electromagnetic lock is fail safe, releasing the instant it is commanded to or the moment power drops. There are no moving parts, so there is no bolt travel time and no misalignment to worry about. If your opening needs to stay locked on power loss, a maglock is the wrong device type entirely.
5) I need a 1200 lb surface mount mag lock for a pair of doors instead of a single leaf - what should I use?
The Dortronics 1000 Series is a single-door surface mounted magnetic lock. For a double opening, the DynaLock 2250 Series is a double electromagnetic lock rated 1200 lb, surface mounted for outswing or inswing single or double doors, and the Alarm Controls 1200D Series is a double magnetic lock. If the pair is on an interior fire-rated opening, the Dorma EML320 is a double door electromagnetic lock rated 1500 lb with a fire rating and electrically locked (fail safe) operation.
6) My opening needs delayed egress - can I use the Dortronics 1000 Series?
The Dortronics 1000 Series is a straight fail-safe magnetic lock that releases instantly upon command or loss of power, with no delayed egress timing built in. For a single door requiring delayed egress, the Alarm Controls 1200DE Series is a delayed egress magnetic lock for single door use. The DynaLock 2101 Series is an early warning lock rated 1200 lb, matching the Dortronics 1000's 1200 lb holding force while adding the warning function.
7) What is the closest equivalent to the Dortronics 1000 Series magnetic lock for a weather-exposed exterior door?
For an exterior opening, the Locknetics WMG Series is the nearest peer: it is a weatherproof electromagnetic lock offered in 600 lb and 1200 lb models on 12/24VDC, matching the Dortronics 1000 Series' 1200 lb holding force and 12/24VDC dual-voltage supply. 9) What does the SPDT door position switch on this maglock give me?
It reports whether the door is actually closed back to your panel or alarm, separate from whether the lock is energized. The switch has 3 color coded conductors of its own, so you run it independently of the 48 inch power cable. Use it for forced door and door held open annunciation.
10) What is the difference between the D and CF options on the Dortronics 1000 maglock?

11) Is this Dortronics maglock mortised into the frame or surface mounted?
Surface mounted. The lock body attaches to a mounting plate that fastens to the underside of the frame header, so there is no mortise prep in the frame or door. For an opening where a surface lock body will not work, a mortise style unit such as the Schlage Electronics 320M compact mortise lock for sliding doors is the different approach.
