Dortronics 7200 Series - High Intensity Single Gang LED Door Status Indicator

The 7200 series hi-intensity LEDs can be used in lieu of standard bi-color T-1-3/4 LEDs and factory applied onto double or triple gang switch plates with any of the Dortronics standard push buttons or key switches. Other configurations are also possible using custom sized plates.

  • Super Bright LEDs: These hi-intensity LEDs are highly visible in virtually any lighting condition, including bright sunlight. Door security status can be immediately conveyed to system users and security personnel.
  • Wide Angle Viewing: The large diameter lens on the standard hi-intensity LEDs are easily viewed even from off-center. The weather-resistant hi-intensity LEDs are furnished with an even larger sealed LED lens for maximum outdoor visibility.
  • Interior or Exterior Use: The weather-resistant units are ideal perimeter access control gates exposed to the weather. If mounted near card readers, the LEDs can be used to clearly indicate when individual doors and/or gates can be accessed. Perfect for industrial applications, these LEDs are easily seen when viewed from a truck cab or forklift.
  • Compact Size: Two LEDs, typically one red and one green will easily fit on a standard single gang wall plate. When mullion mounting is required a narrow 1-3/4” wide plate can be supplied.

LEDs are noted for their extremely long life and these may never need replacement. In addition, LEDs typically draw only about 5% of the power of a comparable incandescent component, allowing smaller, less costly power supplies.

1) Can I mount a Dortronics 7201 LED indicator on a standard single gang box?
Yes. The 7201 puts one or two high intensity LEDs on a one gang stainless steel plate, and standard mounting hardware installs it onto standard single gang junction boxes. Two LEDs, typically one red and one green, fit on a single gang plate without crowding.
2) I need a door status LED on a narrow aluminum mullion, not a wall box. Will this work?
There's a mullion option. When mullion mounting is required, Dortronics can supply the hi-intensity LED on a narrow 1-3/4 inch wide plate instead of the standard single gang plate. Other configurations are possible on custom sized plates, so a non-standard opening isn't a dead end.
3) Should I order the standard or the weather resistant Dortronics 7201 LED for an exterior gate?
Outdoors, order the weather resistant version (the HWR models, 7201xL1-HWR with one LED or 7201xL2-HWR with two). Those have gaskets behind each LED and behind the plate, and they carry an even larger sealed LED lens for maximum outdoor visibility. The standard hi-intensity units have no gaskets and belong indoors. The waterproof choice is an option on the product, so pick it at order time rather than swapping later.
4) One LED or two on a Dortronics 7200 door status indicator, which do I need?
Two if you want to show both states at once. The 7201xL2-H carries two hi-intensity LEDs on a one gang plate, typically one red and one green, so secure and unsecure read as separate lamps. The 7201xL1-H is a single LED and suits a one-condition annunciation, for example a door held open or a gate release. Both counts are offered in standard and waterproof form.
5) Will a Dortronics hi-intensity LED still be readable next to an exterior card reader in direct sunlight?
That's what the hi-intensity version is for. These LEDs are visible in virtually any lighting condition including bright sunlight, where a standard bi-color T-1-3/4 LED washes out. The large diameter lens keeps them readable off-center, which matters when someone is reading the indicator from a truck cab or forklift at a perimeter gate rather than standing square in front of it.
6) Can I get an audible sounder with the Dortronics 7200 LED indicator instead of just lights?
Yes, but it moves you to a two gang plate. The 7202xL2-HxCS is two hi-intensity LEDs plus a continuous piezo sounder on a two gang stainless plate, and the 7202xL2-HWRxCSW is the waterproof LED and waterproof piezo version for outdoors. The piezo runs 20 mA at 3 to 28 VDC. The indoor sounder puts out 100 dBA minimum at 10 cm with a 4500 Hz resonant frequency; the other rating listed is 95 dBA minimum at 10 cm at 2800 Hz. Plan the box accordingly: a single gang opening won't take the sounder models.
7) Can I combine a Dortronics 7200 hi-intensity LED with a push button or key switch on one plate?
Yes. The 7200 hi-intensity LEDs can be factory applied onto double or triple gang switch plates alongside any of the Dortronics standard push buttons or key switches, so a request-to-exit button and its status indication land on one plate at one opening.
