Alarm Controls RP-09 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Will the Alarm Controls RP-09 fit a standard single gang box?
Yes. The RP-09 is a single gang plate measuring 2-3/4 x 4-1/2 inches, so it covers a standard single gang opening. If you are replacing an existing switch or indicator plate at a guard desk or nurse station, the box you already have in the wall is the box this mounts to.
2) How much current do the LEDs on the RP-09 remote station plate draw, and can my access control board power them?
Current draw is small enough for most board auxiliary outputs. The 1/4 inch LEDs on the RP-09 pull 8mA at 12 VDC and 12mA at 24 VDC. The 1/2 inch LEDs on the RP-09L pull 9mA at 12 VDC and 19mA at 24 VDC. Both run on 12 or 24 VDC, so the plate drops onto the same supply as the door controller in most installs. Size the run for the higher figure if you are driving several plates off one output.
3) Is the RP-09 a switch, or just an indicator plate?
Indicator only. The RP-09 is a remote status station: red and green LEDs that report door or relay state back to a desk, console, or corridor position. There is no pushbutton or request-to-exit switch on it. If you need the operator to actually release the door from that location, you want a remote station with a button, not this plate.
4) What is the difference between the Alarm Controls RP-09 remote station plate and the ACSI 1340-1 indicator plate?
Both are single gang wall mount LED indicator plates. The RP-09 carries both a red and a green LED on the same plate, 1/4 inch and mounted horizontally, so one plate shows two states at a glance. The ACSI 1340-1 is a single gang plate with one LED, either red or green, so the color is chosen at order time and one plate reports one state. If you need locked and unlocked annunciated side by side at a guard desk or nurse station, the two-LED RP-09 does it on one gang; if you only need a single status lamp, the 1340-1 covers that with one LED.
5) Can an RP-09 plate be used as the release button for a door, or does it only indicate status?
The RP-09 is an indicator only. Its LEDs terminate in flying leads that connect back to the access control or lock power supply to annunciate state; there is no switch on the plate to release the door. If the opening needs both a push to exit and a status lamp, the RP-09 handles the annunciation and a separate request to exit station handles the release. The ACSI 1340-1 is the same kind of part, a single gang wall mount indicator with one LED, and is likewise not a release device. Do not spec either one where the drawing calls for a push button station.
6) How do the LEDs on the Alarm Controls RP-09 wire in?
The LEDs come with flying leads off the back of the plate, so you land them on your controller, relay, or door position output in the box rather than terminating to screw terminals on the plate. Leave enough slack when you set the plate so the leads are not stretched when you push it back into the gang box.
7) What else could I use instead of the Alarm Controls RP-09 for a single gang LED status indicator?
The ACSI 1340-1 from the 1340 Series is the other single gang wall mount LED indicator we carry. Difference that matters: the 1340-1 gives you one LED, red or green, while the RP-09 puts both a red and a green LED on the same plate. If the position needs to show two states at once, secure versus released, the RP-09 does it on one plate; if you only need a single lamp, the ACSI plate is the simpler part.
8) I need to see door status from a distance. Which Alarm Controls remote plate should I order?
Order the RP-09L. Its LEDs are 1/2 inch and stacked vertically, twice the diameter of the 1/4 inch LEDs on the standard RP-09, which makes it the one to use for a lobby or long corridor sightline. The tradeoff is current: 19mA at 24 VDC versus 12mA for the 1/4 inch version. For a plate read at arm's length at a desk, the standard RP-09 is enough.
9) Which LED status plate is easier to read from across a lobby, the RP-09 or the RP-09L?
The RP-09L is the larger target. It carries 1/2 inch red and green LEDs mounted vertically, against the 1/4 inch horizontal LEDs on the standard RP-09. Both are single gang and both draw modest current, though the larger lamps draw more: the 1/4 inch LEDs pull 8mA at 12 VDC and 12mA at 24 VDC, while the 1/2 inch LEDs pull 9mA at 12 VDC and 19mA at 24 VDC. For a long sightline pick the RP-09L and size the power supply for the higher 24 VDC draw; for a plate read at arm's length at a desk, the RP-09 is the same 2-3/4 inch by 4-1/2 inch plate with the smaller lamps.
10) Is the RP-09 remote station plate finished for commercial corridors and lobbies?
Satin stainless steel, and it is a commercial-rated part. That finish sits alongside the stainless push plates, pulls, and switch plates already common in institutional and multi-family corridors, so it blends into an existing run without a mismatched cover.
