Alarm Controls RP-01 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What size wall opening do the Alarm Controls RP Series narrow remote plates fit?
The RP Series narrow plates are 1-1/2 inch narrow stainless steel plates, sized for a narrow mullion or a tight jamb where a full single-gang plate will not fit. Models RP-01, RP-02, RP-03, RP-03M, RP-24, RP-25 and RP-44SLIM are all called out at 1-1/2 inch narrow; the RP-26SLIM and RP-26ASLIM are narrow slim-line plates as well.
2) Which Alarm Controls RP plate do I order for an Ace lock versus a Medeco key switch?
Key cylinder shape decides it. RP-01, RP-03 and RP-24 are cut with a "D" hole for an Ace lock. RP-03M and RP-25 use a double "D" hole for a Medeco lock. Same narrow stainless plate either way, so match the hole to the cylinder you are installing.
3) Do I need a normally open or normally closed switch on an Alarm Controls RP remote plate?
Both are offered, and the choice follows your access control panel input. Normally open: RP-02 push button, RP-24 and RP-25 tamper switches, RP-26SLIM red push button. Normally closed: RP-01 and RP-03 tamper switches, RP-03M, and the RP-26ASLIM black push button. RP-44SLIM is a DPDT one-button indicating shunt switch, used to shunt an alarm point rather than momentarily release a door.
4) What is the difference between the Alarm Controls RP-01 remote plate and the ACSI 1340-1 indicator plate?
The Alarm Controls RP-01 is a 1-1/2 inch narrow stainless steel wall plate with a red LED, a normally closed tamper switch and a "D" hole for an Ace lock, so it combines indication, monitoring and key-switch prep in one plate. The ACSI 1340-1 is a single gang wall mount indicator with one LED, available red or green, and is an indication-only device. Choose the RP-01 when the opening needs a keyed control point and tamper monitoring on the same narrow plate, and the 1340-1 when a single gang indicator light is all the wall box has to do.
5) Is the ACSI 1340-1 a drop-in substitute for an Alarm Controls RP series narrow plate?
They are not interchangeable. The ACSI 1340-1 is a single gang wall mount plate with one LED, while the Alarm Controls RP narrow plates are 1-1/2 inch narrow plates - a different plate width and cutout - and most of them add switching, such as the RP-24 with its normally open tamper switch and "D" hole for an Ace lock. If the existing prep is a narrow plate opening, stay within the RP narrow range; the 1340-1 suits a single gang box.
6) The door uses a Medeco key switch rather than an Ace lock. Which plate matches?
Specify the Medeco-prepped RP plates: the RP-03M is a 1-1/2 inch narrow stainless steel plate with red and green LEDs, a normally closed tamper switch and a double "D" hole for a Medeco lock, and the RP-25 is a narrow stainless steel front plate with a normally open tamper switch and the same double "D" hole. The Ace lock versions, such as the RP-01 and RP-24, use a single "D" hole and will not accept a Medeco cylinder.
7) What voltage do the Alarm Controls RP Series plates run on?
12/24 VDC, so they drop onto the same low-voltage supply already feeding a mag lock or electric strike. No separate transformer is needed if your existing access control power supply is 12 or 24 VDC.
8) Which RP plate gives both a locked and unlocked indication?
RP-03 and RP-03M carry red and green LEDs on the same narrow plate, which is what you want when the guard or receptionist needs to see door secure versus door released. The single red LED models (RP-01, RP-02) only show one state.
9) Will the RP Series plates match the stainless hardware on my other doors?
Plate finish is satin stainless steel across the series, so they read the same as satin stainless push plates and trim in a lobby or corridor. RP-02 is the exception, an ivory wall plate meant to blend with standard ivory device plates instead.
10) Which RP plate holds up best in a public corridor where the button gets abused?
The slim-line models RP-26SLIM and RP-26ASLIM come with a guard ring around the push button, which keeps a passerby or a cart from mashing it accidentally. RP-26SLIM is the normally open red button; RP-26ASLIM is the normally closed black button.
11) I only need a status light, not a switch. What are my options?
If all you want is an indicator, the ACSI 1340-1 from the 1340 Series is a single gang wall mount indicator with one LED in red or green, no button or key cylinder. The Alarm Controls RP plates pair an LED with a tamper switch, push button or shunt switch, so pick one of those only if you also need the switching function.
12) I only need a push button to release the door, no indicator light. What should I use?
Use one of the slim-line RP plates rather than an indicator. The RP-26SLIM is a narrow slim-line stainless steel wall plate with a normally open red push button and guard ring, and the RP-26ASLIM is the same plate with a normally closed black push button and guard ring. Both are switching devices only. The ACSI 1340-1 is an LED indicator and provides no push button, so it would not release the door on its own.
13) I need a shunt switch for an alarm zone at the door, not just a status light. What are my options?
The RP-44SLIM is a 1-1/2 inch narrow slim-line stainless steel wall plate with a DPDT one-button indicating shunt switch, which both shunts the zone and indicates its state from the same plate. An indicator such as the ACSI 1340-1 single gang LED plate reports a state but does not switch the zone, so it would have to be paired with a separate switching device.
14) Are Alarm Controls RP remote plates rated for commercial buildings?
Yes, the RP Series is a commercial-duty remote plate line for electronic access control, used at guard stations, reception desks and remote release points rather than in residential applications.
15) Everything on the job is ivory devices, not stainless. Does the RP series have a match?
The RP-02 is a 1-1/2 inch narrow ivory wall plate with a red LED and a normally open push button, so it is the option that blends with ivory trim. The rest of the RP narrow plates are satin stainless steel. The ACSI 1340-1 is described as a single gang LED indicator without an ivory equivalent called out, so for an ivory finish the RP-02 is the one to specify.
