Metallics MDR78 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What size cable or conduit does the Metallics MDR78 drive ring hold?
The MDR78 is the 7/8 inch drive ring, so the ring opening is sized for 7/8 inch runs. Other sizes are available by request if your run is larger or smaller.
2) How does a nail-on drive ring attach, and do I need separate anchors or screws?
It drives straight in. The MDR78 is a nail-on style ring, so the integral pointed shank is hammered into wood framing, joists, or studs and the ring is ready to receive the run. No screws, anchors, or separate straps to buy.
3) Does the Metallics MDR78 drive ring meet Buy American or ARRA requirements for a public project?
No. The MDR78 is not Buy American compliant and is not ARRA compliant, and country of origin is listed as multiple. If your job carries a domestic sourcing clause, this part will not satisfy it.
4) Are Metallics MDR78 drive rings sold individually or by the bag?
They come bagged, 10 to a bag, and 10 each is the order minimum. Plan quantities in multiples of 10 when you are spacing supports down a long run.
5) Will a galvanized steel drive ring hold up in a damp basement or crawl space?
The ring is steel with a zinc galvanized finish, which is the standard corrosion protection for interior framing, basements, and crawl spaces. For continuously wet or corrosive exposure, a stainless support is the better call.
6) Can I use these drive rings for plumbing or HVAC lines, or are they electrical only?
Not electrical only. Metallics lists the drive ring for the electrical, plumbing, heating, and air conditioning trades, so the same 7/8 inch ring works for supporting tubing and small pipe runs as well as cable and conduit.
7) How much does a bag of 10 Metallics drive rings weigh for shipping or a parts kit?
A bag of the MDR78 rings weighs 0.53 lbs and the packaged bag measures 6 by 2 by 6 inches, so it drops easily into a van stock bin or a job parts kit.
