Red Dot CCD – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Can the Red Dot CCD duplex cover be used outdoors in a wet location?
Yes. The Red Dot Dry-Tite line of boxes and covers, which includes the CCD, is rated for dry, damp and wet locations, so an exterior wall is within its intended use. It is UL listed under file E28688.
2) What does the Red Dot CCD cover actually mount to, and what device does it take?
The CCD is a device-mount duplex cover: the wiring device fastens to the cover itself rather than to the box, and the cover then closes a Dry-Tite style outlet box. It is cut for a duplex receptacle opening. If you need a cover for a toggle switch or a GFCI with a flip lid instead, that is a different Red Dot cover in the same family.
3) Is the Red Dot CCD cover metal or plastic?
Metal. The CCD is die cast aluminum with an aluminum lacquer finish, silver in appearance. The die cast body is what makes it suitable for industrial and exposed locations where a plastic cover would get broken.
4) Will the Red Dot CCD hold up on an exterior wall of a commercial building?
It is built for that kind of service. Die cast construction with an industrial design gives a rugged protective enclosure for the device, and the aluminum lacquer finish is the standard Red Dot exterior treatment. For a facility standardizing on one cover across exterior receptacles, the CCD is the duplex version of that family.
5) Does the Red Dot CCD protect switches and terminal blocks too, or only receptacles?
The Dry-Tite system is built to protect wiring devices, switches, electronic components and terminal blocks. The CCD itself is the duplex-opening cover, so for a switch or a blank enclosure you would order the matching cover style and keep the same Dry-Tite box.
6) Is the Red Dot CCD sold individually or in a multi-pack?
Each. The CCD duplex device-mount cover is sold as a single unit, so quantity on an order equals the number of covers you get. Model and part number are both CCD.
