The NCVT-3P finds live voltage without touching a conductor, and the ET45 gives you a stepped voltage reading once you can land leads on a terminal. Drop ratings differ between the two. The NCVT-3P is rated to 6.6 feet (2 m) and is IP67, dustproof and waterproof. The ET45 is rated to 9.9 feet (3 m) with IP44 protection, which handles splashing water but is not submersible. For wet trenches, crawl spaces or outdoor panels in the rain, the NCVT-3P is the one to reach for.

Yes. A lead holder on the back of the ET45 sets the leads at the correct spacing for testing tamper-resistant US-style outlets, which otherwise resist a single probe. The same holder has a second position that just stows the leads for carry.

The NCVT-3P covers 50 to 500 Hz, so 400 Hz aircraft and specialty power falls inside its window. The ET45 is a 50/60 Hz instrument only, so use it on standard line frequency work.
