Eaton 1264-BOX – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the Eaton 1264-BOX let me plug a regular household cord into a campground 30 amp RV outlet?
That is exactly what the 1264-BOX does. It plugs into a TT-30 travel trailer receptacle and gives you a NEMA 5-15R/5-20R opening, so a standard household-style cord cap plugs straight in with no rewiring of the pedestal receptacle. Rated 30A at 125V, two-pole three-wire, so the ground carries through.
2) Does the 30 amp rating on this TT-30 adapter mean my 15 amp cord can draw 30 amps?
No. The 30A, 125V rating on the 1264-BOX describes the TT-30 supply side the adapter is built to handle. What you plug into the 5-15R/5-20R face is still limited by that cord and the equipment on it, and by the breaker feeding the pedestal. The adapter does not upgrade a 15 or 20 amp cord.
3) Is this adapter grounded, or two-prong only?
Grounded. The 1264-BOX is a two-pole, three-wire device, meaning hot, neutral and an equipment ground, so the ground path from the TT-30 pedestal carries through to the 5-15R/5-20R face for three-prong tools and cords.
4) Can I run my RV's whole 30 amp shore cord through this to use household plugs at the site?
No. The 1264-BOX gives you one 5-15R/5-20R opening off a TT-30 receptacle, so it is for powering a single household-style cord, not for distributing the full 30A circuit. If you need several outlets, feed a properly rated portable outlet box or cord set from the pedestal instead.
5) Will this hold up being tossed in a toolbox or left on an outdoor power pedestal all season?
The housing is molded black thermoplastic, chosen to take impact and routine handling, which is why it suits campsite pedestals, job site temporary power and event hookups off TT-30 circuits. It is a portable adapter, not a weatherproof enclosure, so treat it as cover-required equipment the way you would any corded adapter.
6) What part number do I order for the Eaton travel trailer adapter, and does it come in other colors?
Order Eaton 1264-BOX. It is a single configuration, TT-30 to 5-15R/5-20R, 30A 125V, and it is offered in black only.
