1) Can I use the Halo H5ICAT housing on a remodel job, or is it new construction only?
New construction only. The Halo H5ICAT/H7ICAT housing is configured for new construction, meaning it mounts to the joists or framing before the ceiling goes up. For an existing finished ceiling you need a remodel-style housing that clips to the drywall instead.
2) What is the difference between the Halo H5ICAT and H7ICAT recessed housings?
Lamp wattage rating. The H5ICAT is the 75 watt version and the H7ICAT is the 90 watt version. Everything else about them is the same airtight new construction incandescent housing at 120V. Order by the maximum lamp wattage the fixture schedule calls for.
3) Is this Halo housing airtight for an insulated ceiling under an attic?
Yes, it is an airtight housing, built to limit air leakage between conditioned and unconditioned space, which is what inspectors look for on ceilings below a vented attic.
4) Does the recessed housing come with a trim, or do I order that separately?
It is the housing only, the can and its mounting frame. Trim and lamp are separate line items, so budget a trim per can on a multi-unit or office build-out.
