B-LINE 4D22-240SS4 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What size is the B-Line 4D22 strut channel profile, and will it fit standard 1-5/8 inch strut fittings?
The 4D22 channel measures 2.12 inches by 2.12 inches in cross section, so it is a 2-inch square profile, not the common 1-5/8 inch (13/16 or 1-5/8 deep) strut size. Hardware sized for 1-5/8 inch channel will not seat correctly on it. Plan on fittings, nuts and clamps matched to the 4Dimension 4D22 profile.
2) Is this B-Line strut channel stainless steel, and can it go outdoors or in a wet area?
It is steel with a type 304 stainless steel finish, which is the grade normally specified for outdoor, washdown, food-service and damp mechanical-room work. For chloride exposure such as coastal or pool environments, type 316 is the usual step up.
3) What gauge is the 4D22 channel, and is 18 gauge heavy enough for overhead pipe and conduit racks?
The 4D22-240SS4 is formed from 18 gauge material. That is a light to medium duty wall thickness, suited to conduit racks, small pipe, cable tray supports and equipment mounting. For heavy pipe, long unsupported spans or seismic bracing, specify a heavier gauge channel and size the spacing of your supports to the load rather than to the channel alone.
4) Why choose 4Dimension channel instead of ordinary single-slot strut?
Eaton B-Line's 4Dimension line is the 4D22 square-profile channel, a 2.12 by 2.12 inch section rather than the flat-backed 1-5/8 inch strut most electricians keep on the truck. The square section lets you build framing and trapeze structures where you need to attach on more than one face, which conventional back-to-back strut only achieves by bolting two pieces together. If all you need is a wall-mounted conduit rack against a flat surface, standard 1-5/8 inch strut is the simpler and more widely stocked choice.
5) What is the exact part number to order for 20 foot type 304 stainless 4Dimension channel?
Order Eaton B-Line part number 4D22-240SS4. The number breaks down as the 4D22 channel profile, 240 inch length, and SS4 for type 304 stainless.
