B-LINE AWA-37-500SS – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Can I set this anchor through the mounting hole of the fixture, or do I have to drill first and then place the bracket?
You can drill and set through the fixture. The AWA-37-500SS is designed to be installed through the mounting hole of the item being fastened, so you can hold a strut bracket, hanger or channel in position, drill through its hole into the concrete, then drive the anchor home without repositioning. That saves layout time on overhead work.
2) Is this anchor OK for outdoor or wet concrete, like a rooftop or parking deck?
Yes. The AWA-37-500SS is stainless steel rather than zinc plated carbon steel, which is why it gets specified for rooftops, exterior walls, parking structures, wash-down areas and coastal work where a plated anchor would rust and stain the concrete. Pair it with stainless nuts, washers and channel where you can, since mixing stainless with plated hardware in a wet location gives you galvanic corrosion at the joint.
3) Is this a UL Listed anchor for electrical support?
UL Listed, yes. That matters on electrical work where an inspector wants the concrete anchorage supporting raceway, cable tray, strut or luminaire hangers to be a listed component rather than a generic fastener. It is catalogued by Eaton B-Line for electrical use.
4) Can I use a wedge anchor like this in block or brick instead of concrete?
No. A wedge anchor of this type is for solid, poured concrete. In hollow block, brick or mortar joints the expansion wedge has nothing solid to bear against and the anchor will spin or pull. For masonry, go to a sleeve anchor or a screw anchor rated for block. Use the AWA-37-500SS where you have structural concrete.
