B-LINE AWA-62-350 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Can I set this anchor after the bracket or strut is already in place?
Yes. The AWA-62-350 can be installed through the fixture, so you drill through the mounting hole in the bracket, strut channel or equipment base into the concrete and drive the anchor straight down through it. No need to lift the fixture off and transfer hole locations.
2) Is the 5/8 inch B-Line wedge anchor UL Listed for electrical support work?
UL Listed, yes. That matters on inspected commercial jobs where conduit racks, cable tray hangers, panel backing and strut supports anchored into concrete have to carry a listing. It is the Eaton B-Line AWA-62-350 all purpose anchor, catalogued for electrical use.
3) Will a zinc plated carbon steel anchor hold up outdoors or in a wet area?
The AWA-62-350 is zinc plated carbon steel. Zinc plating is a light corrosion coating meant for dry interior concrete, so it suits mechanical rooms, parking structures under cover, and interior slab or overhead work. For exterior exposure, washdown areas, pool rooms or coastal sites, specify a stainless or hot dip galvanized wedge anchor instead.
4) Is a wedge anchor the right choice, or should I use a sleeve anchor or a drop-in?
A wedge anchor like the AWA-62-350 is for solid, cured concrete and medium to heavy duty loads, and it is a one shot fastener, once it is expanded it does not come back out. Choose it for conduit racks, trapeze hangers, equipment bases and strut runs. If you are anchoring into block, brick or hollow base material, a sleeve anchor grips better. If you need the bolt removable or want a flush anchor set before the fixture arrives, use a drop-in anchor with a threaded rod or machine bolt instead. Only the wedge type lets you drill and set right through the fixture.
