B-LINE AW2424SP – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Can this B-Line back panel be used in an outdoor enclosure?
Yes. The AW2424SP is rated to the NEMA 4X environment and is intended for indoor or outdoor use. NEMA 4X covers hosedown, windblown dust and rain, and corrosion resistance, so the panel suits an outdoor or wet-location box. The enclosure itself has to carry the 4X rating and be sealed correctly for the installation to hold that rating.
2) Is the AW2424SP panel steel or stainless, and will it corrode in a washdown area?
It is a stainless steel panel, and it carries a white powder coated finish over the stainless. Stainless is what you want in a washdown, coastal, or chemical area where a plain painted carbon steel panel would rust at any scratch or drilled hole.
3) Does the AW2424SP come with the enclosure or is it sold separately?
This is the back panel only, an accessory for a B-Line series fiberglass enclosure. The enclosure, along with any mounting hardware kit, terminal blocks, or DIN rail, is ordered separately.
4) Why use a stainless subpanel instead of the standard painted steel one?
Two reasons drive it. First, corrosion: inside a 4X fiberglass box in a food plant, car wash, or coastal site, condensation and washdown carryover will find a painted steel panel at every drilled and tapped hole. Stainless does not. Second, the white powder coat on this panel gives you a light interior that makes wiring and labeling easier to read. If the enclosure lives in a dry indoor electrical room, a standard painted steel panel does the same structural job for less.
5) Can I drill and tap the AW2424SP to mount my own components?
Yes, that is what a subpanel is for. The AW2424SP is a flat stainless sheet you lay out, drill, and tap for DIN rail, wireways, contactors, or terminal strips before dropping it in the enclosure. Because it is stainless rather than painted carbon steel, the fresh holes will not become rust points in a wet or corrosive location.
6) What is the exact part number to specify for a 24 x 24 stainless B-Line panel?
Order Eaton B-Line model AW2424SP. That is the stainless steel back panel for the 24 x 24 fiberglass enclosure line, finished white powder coat.
