A vertical outside bend carries the tray run over an obstruction or up a change in elevation, with the bend turning away from the cable side. The Eaton B-Line 4A-12-60VO12 turns 60 degrees on a 12 inch radius, so it is the fitting you drop in where a straight ladder run has to climb or drop at that angle rather than continue level.

Allow 14.892 inches of run length for the fitting itself, measured along the depth of the piece. That is the figure to subtract when you cut or order the straight sections either side of the elevation change so the splice points land where you want them.

Both change the elevation of a tray run, but they curve opposite ways relative to the cables. An outside bend, like this 60 degree piece, curves so the cables ride the outside of the arc, which is what you use going over the top of an obstruction. A vertical inside bend is used where the run bends the other direction, cables on the inside of the curve. Order the one that matches the direction of your elevation change, since they are not interchangeable in the field.

Aluminum tray is lighter to handle overhead and resists corrosion without galvanizing, which is why it gets specified in plants, data centers, and coastal or damp environments. This bend weighs 5.048 lb, so one person can set it on the supports while a second makes up the splice plates. If your run is already steel tray, stay with steel fittings rather than mixing materials at the splice.
